DMC cars in Blue, Saddle Brown and Burgundy

Raphael Ferdani a DeLorean owner in France recently wrote to me telling about a blue trimmed car that was seen in Monaco. This prompted me to look through my old records including the hand written specification book meticulously compiled and maintained by Len Weaver who worked for me in the DeLorean Coventry office. The production orders for the "other" colours were placed in January 1982 ( I attach an extract from the hand written BOM brochure) only a few weeks before receivership. But before that time one of each car had been built and shipped from the factory.

But where are they now?

This is interesting. Prior to the Sale of the Kapac Inventory to DMCH. There was a Club event at the Warehouse in Columbus. We had the the chance to rummage through the rows and rows of tightly packed inventory. I recall James Espey (them private citizen) finding a few colored interior parts. Two pieces were burgundy (steering wheel pad and Grab handle) One was blue (glove box lid). The burgundy pieces can be seen in the Deloreanmuseum.org collection. I have not seen the Blue piece since that day back in 96. I will say the Blue was not very attractive. It reminded me of early 70's turquoise blue vinyl interiors.

There are a couple of clips on YouTube with a D driving around in Monte Carlo. It's hard to tell from the video, but I think it has a grey or black interior. Must be more than one DeLorean in Monaco!

This color of blue (or slightly darker one) is a lot closer to what I recall seeing in that sample Glovebox cover.

That isn't it blue. The blue is obvious blue, not some variation of grey.

That one looks like a dye job done by an owner. Notice all the stitching is the same color. That isn't factory.

FWIW, the Registry shows four DeLoreans (1745,3131,5598,10454) whose last reported location was in Monaco. The date and accuracy of this data cannot be guaranteed, of course.

The"blue" one is actually in Monaco, and as I live in France, I gave a visit to the owner a few years ago. History of the car attests that it came this way from the factory.

By the way, I have VIN#05598 registered in the UK (registrationnumber ABW 406X). It was for sale just last year, so I guess it went to Monaco? Or am I wrong here?

Since they were experimenting with different colors, we don't know what the stiching would have been like. Besides one of the factory workers remembers one car being fitted with the blue interior and being shipped out.

Thanks, after seeing pics of the burgandy car last night and the consistency of the blue interior in this one to that my opinion changed.

Here's a good period photo of the Burgandy interior car. Note also the UK-style rub strip and indicator lenses, despite being LHD. The plaque says that the Haynes museum acquired it in Nov 82.

Wow, this is new to me, i had no idea these colored cars existed other than seeing the museum pieces of the interior. Very cool, the blue looks awful but still very interesting Delorean information.

I like it how the blinkers are installed more forward into the bumper. Looks better that way and they are more visible.

I think the gold car replica from Germany is probably the one with the factory original tan interior? Or, he found the factory tan interior car, removed it and used it for the gold car replica - but the pictures suggest these are 30 year old tan interior pieces...

Yep, but the way I read it, some of the parts ( seats, a pillar trim, kneepad, etc ) were brown originally, then cleaned to freshen them up. Then, the dash was color matched to the same brown, along with any other pieces which he did not have in brown...

VIN 10455 is the Burgundy car and VIN 10454 the Blue trim car - I mention this just in case there is any doubt.
