Other Automotive Books You Enjoy

Recently ordered James Dean: At Speed. I bought it as a birthday gift, but flipped through it before wrapping. You don't have to be a James Dean fan to enjoy it: the pictures of California's Golden Age were great. Which bikes Dean chose and why, what cars he sold and traded to get what he wanted were interesting. Of course, my brother is a Porsche fan, so I bought it for that reason.

The author controls all the books sold through Amazon, and he was nice enough to sign and inscribe it to my brother... a great buy for $30!

What other good "car reads" can you recommend?

Any of Peter Egans mag. articles titled "side glances" and "Leanings" are a fun read. Brock Yates "Cannonball" road race is good also.

Christine by Stephen King

Any number of textbooks from a relevant engineering type program. I am thinking ones along the lines of "Internal Combustion Engines" or "Ergonomics."

Depends I guess on what type of car books you had in mind. Fiction, non-fiction, for pleasure, or for learning something. If you want a history lesson in some ways, I'd imagine there are a few good Henry Ford biographies out there.

I also like "industry" books. These are a bit dated now but still pretty good reads:

---All Corvettes are Red (development of the C5 Corvette).
---Taurus - The Making of the Car that Saved Ford (development of the original Taurus, which in its day was a huge risk)
---Car: A Drama of the American Workplace (development of the "oval" Taurus - really interesting from today's perspective, i.e. how to screw up a good product.
---Rivethead - Tales from the Assembly Line
