Band clamps for exhaust to cat joint

I (and 4 other local owners) have our mufflers off for ceramic coating this week. Everyone who was removing their muffler for the first time discovered what those of us who have done it before already knew - those U clamps that hold the cat to the muffler are total garbage. Mine's brand new last summer and is already looking like crap.

So I am considering picking up enough band clamps for all of us. But I'm not sure which one to use, since none of us has a muffler to measure right now. The muffler pipe goes inside the cat, and my caliper says the cat's OD is 2.2". So I'm guessing that this http://www.jegs.com/i/Dynomax/289/33231/10002/-1 would do it? It's a 2.25" band clamp with a lap joint.

Has anyone used one of these before on a stock exhaust? Is this the right diameter? Right part at all?

I have a handful of band clamps for my Delorean and Mustang exhaust projects as well as a stock Delorean system sitting next to the car. I'll test out what I have and let you know if anything fits.

It's too cold to search my garage for my tape measure and my band clamps are too big for the stock system. I have 2.5 inch lap joint clamps. A lap joint clamp is what you want but what I don't know is if you need a 2.0 or 2.25 inch clamp. I'll get the tape measure on the pipes tomorrow.

Jon - That is very thoughtful, thanks! I was thinking about this as well. My clamp looks like garbage. I'll pay you for it. Ordering together saves us all on shipping. Appreciate you looking into this for us!

Yeah! You got it David. It's no problem at all. My clamp is only a year old and never gets wet outside of a carwash (maybe 10 times since I bought it?) and yet somehow already looks like crap. Total garbage and a part just begging for improvement. I'll pass on the 2" measurement (thanks Kenny!!) to Clint and make sure I don't get the wrong thing :)

That's weird, I just looked at mine and its fine. I did clean it up and recoat it about a year ago when I tried to do my own ceramic coating. I wonder what the difference is.:headscratch:
