An inflated "list" price is a great way to make your "sale" price seem very attractive, isn't it? I have seen 1982 stickers that were above 1981 levels, but I'm not sure if they were in the 30s.

On the old .com, I believe it was James Espey who commented on a thread similar to this, stating that there never was an actual company list price on the last (1983) cars; it was pretty much all over by then. Consolidated could charge whatever they wanted.

I have bought a lot of consolidated cars. Ie original owners who bought from them. All purchase prices were sub 19k plus title and tax.

I remember seeing a Consolidated ad as low as $9K. You have to remember the manufacturer was bankrupt and no one knew if anyone would service or warranty anything or if you could get any parts. All there was at the time was the DOA and Delorean 1 (and Consolidated). Dealers were painting their stock hopping to try to move it. There was also the lukewarm-to-bad publicity about it's performance, quality and reliability. All of the publicity about the drug scandal and entrapment surrounding JZD did not help. This was before the BTTF movies which IMHO helped to improve the reputation of the car and made it the Icon of the 80's that it became. As we all know, no one pays the list price except in the very beginning. In fact, many dealers took money "under the table" to put buyers on a waiting list to get some of the first cars and on top of that they paid list. Some paid well over $30K. There was a lot of excitement in the beginning. That got lost when deliveries kept getting delayed.
