View Full Version : Frame & Body Presence or absense of boards under the trunk mats

After some discussion in another thread, I thought this would make a good poll question. The floor mat In the trunk (under the hood/bonnet) sometimes has a wooden board that goes underneath it. The wooden board seems to be entirely absent from earlier VIN's, but present on later VIN's. I originally thought this was just a case of them being removed by their respective previous owners, but it appears this may be another one of those production differences. I've enabled multiple voting for owners who own multiple DeLoreans.

If this turns out to be a production difference, I'd be curious as to what the VIN cutoff is, so feel free to post your VIN and whether or not your DeLorean has a board under the floor mat when voting!

What about those of us with more than one car? I could only vote once, which was yes, but my other car, 891 doesn't have a board.

(It's only half glued to the floor mat now though)...

Not on 1258. But it could've been removed by the original owner, as I'm the second.

My car has a backer board glued to all the underside of the carpet. So is that normal on all cars? And there is another board on other cars?

6720 has it, but it is not glued to the carpet (and it doesn't look like it ever was)

Mine never had a board , so I made one out of 1/4" ply. Because of the strut bar I split it so you can get at either side. No tire just spare parts under there. Works good.

2613 had a masonite-like board attached to the carpet with Velcro.

If you do not have the board the most likely explanation is that the trunk got wet and the board got messed up so a PO threw it away.

VIN814 has the fibreboard one. Looks old and tatty enough to be original. QAC addition? No wood tho...

Mine had velco on the back of the carpet, but no board. So she must have had one before.

Actually made one up last week out of 5mm coreflute, nice and light.

802 - no board. However, I do have these nifty "pockets" on the underside of the mat where it looks like one would insert a board.

My previous 2572 has a board.
My current 6513 has a board, though I removed it prior to installing a new carpet and shock tower strut.
The board is kept in storage.

01495 Didn't have one when I got it, but one has since been added. I doubt it ever had one because the carpet was warped/sunk into the spare tire opening. After 2 years of having a board, the carpet reshaped itself correctly and looks nice!

I always figured there was some sort of board there and removed due to damage. Maybe this carpet is not original but a replacement and therefore has these pockets to tuck the board into.

2186 doesn't have it either. Does anyone know where I can get one if I wanted to add one to the car? The middle of the carpet sags where the spare tire is.

I just made my own, it was a piece of cake. Just took the carpet out and bought a sheet of hardboard at Lowe’s. Traced the carpet on it and cut slightly smaller than the lines, then sanded and attached at the existing plastic grommets. Cost maybe 5 bucks and took a half hour tops
