This item has a high reserve. It was recently relisted on ebay. Its previous auction ended on sunday march 10th with a high bid of $910.00 but the auction ended with the reserve not being met. So the only way to get this item is for someone to bid till the reserve has been met, maybe $1000?, then go from there.

I was only giving an advice for all the people who are not familiar with ebay.. for sure the people really interested in a auction will be active near the ending time, so it's often useless play to throw $1 each time starting like ten days before the end of the auction..

Aren't aftermarket clusters a lot cheaper? I think I saw one somewhere for about $300.

The underlying sales pitch for this one is that it is "concours".

Personally, I would think that any concours car, at this stage, would already have one, but if you had a near-concours car and you really needed a grey binnacle, this one would be for you. A somewhat niche market.

Not only Concour car owners care about having OEM correct parts. Considering the auction price I'm thankfull I am not in need of a binnacle as mine is equal to the one pictured in the auction, but if mine was cracked I'd be seeking a correct replacement over a stitched recovered one. DeLorean ownership is not a cheap hobby.

Honestly, knowing Ed, even if you do meet the reserve and win the auction, he'd probably still request your vin and proof that it's a concourse car, otherwise he'd refuse to sell.

Clusters are separate from the binnacle. For around $300 you can have your existing binnacle recovered with a non-original but OEM-style look. A new (new old stock, not aftermarket) cluster is more than $300 (currently $410 standard, $722 metric)

Whatever happened to the injection moulded new ones DMC were working on, I know they, or at least one, exists as I held it in Northern Ireland a couple of years back.

In the recently published DeLorean book by ex DMC employee Nick Sutton there's reference to the technique they used to produce the original binicles, and how much of a PITA it was, I'm not surprised that DMC went the injection moulded route.

Can't say I liked the fact that it was 100% plastic but much like the plastic injection moulded dash boards if your only other option is a cracked sunburnt original then it is a way out.

Personally my dash and binicle was toast so I had the whole car recovered in leather.

According to DMC Houston they'll be available someday. :thumbup:

Just kidding... They had prototypes available last year and said they'd be available at DCS. That event came and went with no binnacles. It's anyone's guess if or when they'll make it into production.

When they do, I'll be near the front of the line to get one.
