I've got the same problem. Your sending unit may be faulty. Check under the spare tire to make sure something didn't just come unplugged.

My guess is the float is stuck... Mine was. Also my Fuel pump leaked... So I put in the new Combo Pump Sender unit, and it was easy to do, fit great, and works great. It is a new modified GM Fuel pump, you get rid of the basket, and the hose that collapses, and they even give you a close off plate for the old sender hole. Well worth the money.

Red 83 D,

Is your gauge pointing straight up at 12 o'clock? Or is it pointing to the full mark, which is at 1 or maybe 2 o'clock?

If it is pointing straight up, this often tells you there is a short in the circuitry, like a connection loose or rusted away, or some other electrical problem. If it is showing full, as opposed to pointing up at 12 o'clock, then yea, the float is likely stuck.

You can get in there and fiddle around, the access is in your trunk, under the spare tire. Once you get the cover panel off, you can see the top of the fuel pump/boot (which is the larger round part on the passenger side) and the smaller round part closer to the drivers side is the fuel sender. Have a look at the connections for anything obvious on the fuel sender. Unplug it, plug it back in, have a helper tell you if anything changed on the gauge from the drivers seat. Or loosen off the fuel sender and pull it out, with or without it still electrically connected. You can rock it back and forth and see if the float feels like it is moving inside. Your helper can tell you what the gauge does (if anything). Don't spill fuel all over yourself :) Let us know how it goes. Fuel senders are relatively easy to make work again and are a pretty good thing to start with for DIY stuff (not assuming you're a noob, just saying they are a good thing to start with to get your feet wet).
