View Full Version : Transmission 5-Speed Removing the Clutch Slave Cylinder

I'm running into trouble removing the clutch slave cylinder... I can't get the fork back far enough to let the pin roll upwards. Others on the forum have said...
1) Use a pry bar to pull the fork/pin back 2) Insert a screw driver under the pin and pull it upwards. The same instructions say that the pry'ing the fork back only gets the pin about 75% of the way out of the slave.
So what I think I'm missing here is that I would need to first disconnect the hard line to the slave and then also remove the bolts holding the slave cylinder on. Then while pulling back the fork, the slave could move slightly (say up at a slight angle) and then the pin could get clear of the slave's front edge and boot.
Any ideas or guidance?

You will need to remove the hydraulic connection to it first. Take the two 11mm retaining bolts out and pry the slave upwards. The pin will move with it and once the bell housing is cleared the slave will pull free of the fork rod.

Thanks Josh,
That's going to make all the difference. It dawned on me that it I couldn't pull the fork/pin back far enough to free the pin from the slave cylinder, otherwise it could possibly happen while in normal operation, and that would be bad.

I just got done with mine. There is a bracket with one bolt attaching the slave hard line to the top/middle of the trans. Then as Josh said remove the 2 bolts holding the slave to the trans. And it will detach while not having to take apart any lines. I did this while lowering the trans on the trans jack to gain access to all of it.

The heater valve coolant hose directly above the slave cylinder was the biggest issue I had when trying to remove the slave cylinder on my car. It was blocking access to be able to rotate the slave cyl up and out. I had all the coolant drained out of the car at the time so I was able to remove the coolant hose and that made the job 100x easier. I'm not sure if that helps much in your particular situation since draining all the coolant out isn't exactly a fun or easy process....
But if you are completely stuck and can't get the slave cylinder out it's one more possible route to go. I posted about it here with a few photos.
