Metric Conversions On Gauges ***SPLIT FROM OIL PRESSURE***

Sorry, but I'm going to veer slightly OT for a minute

I know yours is a metric Canadian car, but still - I have never seen pressure shown as kg/sqcm

I know it is just a metric conversion of psi, but I work in a continuous process industry and I thought I had seen them all - psi, inWG, inHg, mmHg, Pa, bar, mbar.

Is this an 80s thing? What units do contemporary Canadian cars use, those that even have pressure indicated.

Back on-topic, in the first photos, does your tach always show 5000rpm when the key is out?

I couldn't tell you really, I haven't seen a modern car that showed oil pressure. But then again, I rarely get the opportunity to drive anything modern. It's definitely one of the more arbitrary units of measurement I've seen displayed in a car. PSI would be preferable, but I guess this was the most metric unit they could think of ;)

Happily, but I think engine temp in °C is probably the only other difference.

For what Dermot was pointing out on the metric cluster, I've never seen those pressure units used either. Might be an 80s thing, you could be right. I see more psi in all honesty here than kPa. One of those units where people are hanging on to the old system. I always quote my height in feet/inches and not cm, and weight in pounds not kg. I'd even say miles in conversation but generally mean km. Bizarre really. I think in practicality the country is still caught in the middle somewhere.

The DMC store shows the metric instrument cluster with these same units. The tach needle in the image is at 7500 RPM, so maybe 5000 isn't so bad...

This upcoming Sunday we have our Spring Tour.
One of our members has a fully metric instruments panel.

If I do not forget, I'll try and take a shot of it and note the various meter scales (US/British or metric divisions).
Once taken, I'll post the picture here and provide info in the scales.

For some reason my car that I'm re-commissioning had a metric cluster as well (not speeedo) that I have now changed to a 'proper' one, why it had it? I dont know as it was never a car that went to Canada, I guess it was just changed at some point. It had been brought back to the UK in 1990 so it may have had a faulty unit then and thats all anyone could get perhaps! I do have the old unit for sale if any one wants it mind, complete cluster all working just minus the speedo.
