Hi guys :)

Just vanted to start my projekt tread, I hope I'm in the right catagory :)

Anyway, I'we been looking around the interwebs for a D to fitt my budget, and last night I may have struck gold :) Beeing as I live in Norway, I cant just upp and go look, so I have just spoken to a profesional car importer, who wil have an american contact go take a look at it for me annd make a report of it's condition, :)

Since I don't know too much yet, I cant disclose to mutch info, but I can tel you it's an 81 manual, has about 60.000 miles, is a daily driver I think whit that milage, is claimed rust free (we'l se :) ) and runs grate it is claimed.

I'we been loking at the higher mile once because as far as I can tel they have the best chanse of beeing properly maintained at the price level I can agord, keep in mind it's not just the car I'm paying for, it's also shipping, and 25% tax when i get it, in addition to the cost of having the company bring it to the port, and registration costs when it get's here.

My contact seemed verry helpful, and was werry posetive to the car in question, so I am looking werry much forward to seeing the report his mechanic contact wil send once he has cheked it out.

I know I'm probably getting my hopes up too much, but I can't help it :) I feel like a kid before christmas, I'we wanted a Delorean since I first saw BTTF on tv back in 1990 :) and it seems that the time might just be now :)

Wish me luck :)

Don't worry about the typos I'm sure if we had to write in bokmal or speak Norwegian we would make a few mistakes as well. Good luck.

Thanks guys, realy apreciate that :) I wil try my best to make myself understood, but I fear I'm better at speeking english, then I am at typing it :)

But to know that you don't mind, that is a huge releaf :)

Stil waiting to hear back from my contact, hoping the ad is stil good, and not one that lingers and was sold long ago. Also there was no contact number, only email. Wil se :)
Heres hoping :)

Edit. Typing on an ipad is a real chalange, and i wil acount about half the typos to it :) can't blame it for the grammar thoug :) lol :)

Your posts are completely understandable, even with the odd typo.

It is your use of paragraphs that really help.

Good luck in your search.

As well as your contact, a member here may be able to look at a car for you. They would be someone who would know the specific things to look for in a D. Just a suggestion.

I remember that car! That's VIN 6880 that was for sale near me. It went up to South Carolina and sold for 16k. This ad may be fishy!

The ad says the car is in Chicago, just a skip hop and a jump to DMCMW. Ask them to bring it to them to inspect and if all,is ok you'll pay them on the spot. If its phony they won't oblige, if its legit you should bring it to them anyways before importing it.

It's also interesting that the car is supposedly from Illinois and has no front plate. That price is way out of line for anything not rusted or running. For that price I would fly into Chicago in person. Even if a flight cost you $1000 you'd have one heck of a road trip taking it to the docks and you'd know all the paperwork was good.

Dear Cartman,
Buying any collector car from a distance is risky. You may already know this.

The first thing is to be sure not to send any money by wire or PayPal or any other method in advance unless you have a bond or escrow or other secured method to be sure your money is safe during the transaction.

The second thing a comment about this particular car that is in the linked advertisement.

The price shown at less than US$8000 is a price for a project car. Do you want a project car?

You may want to consider posting a message to all of us in this section of our this forum: LINK: http://dmctalk.org/forumdisplay.php?10-DeLorean-Cars (http://dmctalk.org/forumdisplay.php?10-DeLorean-Cars)

Perhaps I missed it in one of your other posts. Some of us might know where you can find the kind of D you want.

Before posting a Car Wanted message - look at this Sticky in that particular section of the forum in case you have not already seen it: LINK: http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?371-Please-read-before-posting (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?371-Please-read-before-posting-%93I-want-a-cheap-DeLorean%94-or-%93Project-Car-Wanted%94-threads)

Best luck in your search.

It's also interesting that the car is supposedly from Illinois and has no front plate. It should be noted that in the thread Chris linked to, the pictures show similar wear on the front bumper, as well as the holes, but has a Florida plate on the back. It may not have been registered in Illinois, and may still be wearing the Florida plates (where only one plate is required), although there's no pictures of the rear to confirm this.

I wonder if the louvers are still missing.

If that were a legit ad, that car wouldn't last a day. A "nice running DeLorean" is not a 7k car...it would have been more trustworthy if he were asking 12K+

And so you know, just because they say "OK" to a personal inspection means nothing....they may just get a kick out of making you trek 600 miles to a made up address.

Thank you for your reply's guys :)

I had this same fear, of it beeing to cheep, that is why I contacted a profesional who had contacts all over the states. :)

No money wil change hands until it has been confirmed that the car is legit, and hopefuly he can find that out before he has to travle to chicago.

I'm looking for a part project/part ok car. I would prefere it be mint :) ofcource, but I am ok whit just about anything as long as it runs, and doesnt have too mutch frame rot :)

I'm curently in the finishing stages of my current project car, so I havenn't goon all out in finding one just yet. That's why I havent made an "add" in the wanted section yet :)

well off to work, and wait and se what the contact says :)

thank you all again for your imput :)

Just remember, scammers will also insist in using some "very trusted" scrow company they trust.

FWIW I used escrow.com as the broker for my remote D purchase. It worked fine for both myself and the buyer. My only gripe was that they have a credit card limit of 2 or 3k, so I couldn't get my points/rewards for the purchase. I had to bank wire to escrow.com instead. I can't remember what their commissions were but they weren't bad. The seller and I agreed to split the difference on them.

That price was just to low. You may find a low price for a non running car where the surviving spouse does not know the value or how to use the Internet.

You are not the first one, as you know. You probably are not surprised about it. Many people have gotten further into a bad deal than you got, so maybe you actually are lucky.

Remember, there were >8000 DeLoreans made. A project car for you is out there somewhere. At least you are not searching for a rare, limited-production car.

We'll look for your advertisement.

I think I know which red one you are talking about ;)

If you have not 'liked' the deloreans for sale facebook page I really suggest you do so. Chris keeps it very well updated. Also use http://www.adhuntr.com/ to search all Craigslists across the states. You'll find something, just be patient. And if its too good to be true... well this is the example haha.

Good Luck!

On the surface it like like a legit ad....and though it's painted, even if you got it for 12k I would say you faired well. If you can get it for less then that's just more frosting on the cake.

Panels look OK for a $9k car.

Lots of work needed. I would have to assume that they can't get the drivers door open.

Most important - You need to get pics of the frame underneath to determine where it was stored for the past 14 years (dry barn or wet grass)

You obviously know that it needs it's fuel system overhauled, as well as clutch and braking systems, which shouldn't be a problem for you.

(just a suggestion, but I wouldn't post the actual links to cars that you are interested in, as someone else might become attracted to it :). Post photos for peoples opinion, but I would keep the contact details to yourself)

sadley e add has just been removed, whit a little luck it's because my guy got it, but I realy think that's to mutch to hope for...

Hi guys :) long time, no posts :)

It was decided by me and my wife, that I would wait to get a Delorean untill we had a house whit a garage, wel, we still don't have a house, nor a garage, but my parents now have a garage :) so, I'm starting my hunt again, all be it at a slow pace, we are currently sawing up for a month long trip to the USA in September next year. By then, I'm hoping to have sold off my current project car, my ford racing puma, and posebly have saved enoug, to get one in need of restoration :)

Hopefully, things wil go my way :)
