Hi to everyone, as a big fan of DMC building one of my first wooden cars in scale of 1:10. This is sort of learning curve project along some other ones.

Curious to know about the motivation? Student in woordshop? artwork?

@john 05141 from Belgium - thank you, I'm also a big fan and proud owner of 92'' Toyota MR2. Due to loss of Job few months ago I was forced in to unemployment so had 2 options regards my mr2. So decided to keep it and try my arm in to car modeling. I know that boys(mostly) always like toys at any age just as me at my 29 I like cool toy cars and real size cars :) I said to myself, if I want to keep my mr2 it has to pay for itself, so first car I started 2 months ago was wooden mr2 (at the moment being built as well).
I haven't decided yet regards finishing coat of the DMC. I hope it's gona stay in wood finish, we'll see.
So, motivation...passion to cars :)

Here's picture from one of the charity drives few years ago. I went to it with my son in early morning as there was one DMC. It's in Ireland. Love the car.

I prefer the standard Delorean wheel. I was curious to see if you were going to do that or do another wheel. I know the standard spoke would be a lot of work.

The rumor was it kept cracking the wood, so he got rid of it......

But you need to do the panel behind the seats out of fiberglass or metal...

That's the only part of the car actually made of wood, seems like a fun reversal to substitute...

I saved myself hassle and avoided struts altogether :D

Making it a right hand drive? : Decided to go for right hand purely for the reason that they have been made in N.Ireland in past and this one is coming from Ireland now

Are you putting a Cork plate on it when she's done? : I'll make Cork plate to mark manufacturing and assembly place along with plates that will match next owners request what to put on it :)

I am curious as why you left out the spot for the radio, and how you produced the gauges? : regards radio, there's simply no space for it in this build....regards gauges - found online flat image of gauges, edited them on photoshop, printed out on HQ photopaper, carefully cut out, covered with automotive clear lacquer to give protection, glued it on small wooden panel and that's really it.

Anyone wishes wooden memorabilia of any DMC part(grill, dash, seat, engine etc) for themselves,gift or like individual piece hanging by mirror in your DMC let me know and I'll try to do my best to cook one up for you ;)

@ kenny - it's still hard to work out hours gone into this built as I have redone few parts etc...I'm learning along the way as it's my first complete built. Lets say dashboard in all details took about 40h to get it to this stage. I'd say I have put in about 150h into this one now, maybe a bit more.
@ thirdmanj - thanks man, you're one of the many that are asking about flux capacitor...I'd say it'll have to go in then ;)
as for shifter, no it doesn't shift, but I think I have achieved the illusion that it does :D steering does move tho..it wont be connected to wheels I think, but it does move ;)

@ dmcjohn - cheers, chassis will be tricky as I plan not to use any screws or metal to keep wheels rotation and steer (wasn't planning to make them with steering)

Somehow today is the first day I've seen this thread. Started on page one and couldn't stop reading. Amazing work! When I started reading I thought this was going to be a nice roughly cut and painted model, not the highly detailed work of art it has become.

Love how so many of the things open/work - seats, doors, trunk, louver, wheels, glove box... I'm now half expecting to see a running car by the time this is done.

Hi lads, my apologies for being offline for a while. Haven't done much with my DMC build as it is at a bit complex stage at the moment where it will be dressed up with pine wood veneer before I take next step building front part of chassis with hopefully working steering. Have been a bit sick with cold etc lately so lost any interest at all to do anything with DMC build. Just didn't wanted to ruin all joy that I get building it. So decided to put it aside for December and enjoy everything else that festive season can give and get myself back on track for 2014. So far it is planned to not paint body of my wooden DMC, but have even pine wood veneer covering sides of the body. should be looking good when finished with all nice curves on fenders. Testing at the moment some cool varnish finishes for body.
Have short video attached where you can have a quick look how my DMC will meet 2014 and for you to have glimpse of how it looks in real life so far :)

I build a lot of professional scale models, but the thing is I start with a injection molded or resin cast kit...you do all this from scratch!!!! This just blows me away.

The only thing I think detracts from this piece is the paint. I would have thought different shades of stain would be more complementary. I don't know exactly how to put it, but it seems in a project like this, paint just hides all of your hard and talented work and the observer may not make the connection that this is actually handmade from wood.

What really gets me is every time I think you are done with a specific area, you go back in and make it even more detailed! Those tires are mind blowing!

Hi Michael, thanks for your comments. Resin cast kit models are cool, love the detail and fine work that can be achieved.
In very start before I tried my hand in "scratch" building about a year ago my plan was to paint every part I make. I sort of stayed with this idea until first pieces was actually made.
Thing is that the more that I do the less I want to paint them. I think separate painted parts in combination with unpainted wood parts gives cool character to model. Something unique.
Surely there's hidden wow factor involved if someone is looking at the model like this and thinking that it's cool wooden car with rubber tires...but hang on, tires actually are from wood as well :)
I think best part of this build is that I don't know myself how it will turn out as I learn along the way while I'm building it.

This is my favorite thread without a doubt. I cant tell you how much I look forward to the updates. With every new post Im more amazed than the previous installment. Craftsmanship is astounding! After this you should build a life size one with a working wooden engine and all, after seeing all of this Im sure it can be done.

@Domi - It's hard to me imagine to have it made smaller, it is enough headache to have it in this size :cool1:

@Alan - it's definitely one feature that I'll try to keep that way...when it's finished I plan to take it with me and jump in to someones DeLorean to show it off
on one of DeLorean meets here in Ireland or UK. So thought it would be cool to have chassis come off and display this artwork that way as well.

@SS Spoiler - engine definitely will be interesting part of this build ;)

@ALEXAKOS - cheers, wasn't hard at all, just was watching how wooden pieces came together themselves all the time haha :cool1:
