Center Armrest Rebuild - Custom

My center console rebuild is finally starting to come together.

Lids on the button area and the new center console storage. Ashtray is gone, coin tray is gone, rubbery pad is gone...

Storage area contains a power outlet, a green LED for lighting, and a mini jack for auto input.

The bezel for the buttons was 3D printed to fit and hold the buttons. The buttons are all from Euramtec.com. Interestingly the windows up/down buttons are wired exactly the same as the stock Delorean. All I did was plug in the existing quick connect - although I did add a source for the green led illumination.

Things still to do...
- Finish the gear selector surround
- Fit a SS shock on the center storage box lid
- Final fit and placement

VERY nice! I have been threatening to do something like this for years. I wanted to keep the console as close to stock as possible. I actually wanted it to look unchanged and not different from original. But I wanted the pad to lift up revealing a compartment. I didn’t go ahead in case I ruined the console and then I would face getting a new one. I was going to take the face off the ashtray and just leave it in place with nothing under it so that it looked completely original. But I really like your console. VERY nice indeed. Agreed, Jeff - this is way cool. I think if I had it I'd get annoyed by the flip-up door to access the window and defog switches, but how often do you really use those anyway? Guess it would be a try it and see situation. But it looks absolutely great. Gonna start selling kits? Armrests are in such demand I bet you'd shift at least a few units :)

I'm afraid this is going to be a one off. I've taken plenty of pictures of the process and eventually (based on when I actually get time from doing projects) I'll write up a little photo essay.

Rebuilding the center console has proven to be one of the more difficult tasks on my cabin rebuild. It was so important to get the position, strength, look and feel right. Little things like the amount of padding was trial and error.

Very nice, beautiful craftsmanship! I like that you incorporated nicer aftermarket switches to replace the misaligned archaic stock ones. Nice to get rid of the ashtray too.

Looks grate :) but I think I would leve the buttons exposed, if I were ever to atempt the same, I'm all for the cleen look, but, I also dislike having to look for buttons :)

Looks grate anyway, and as stated above, how often do you realy use them :)

I like it. I think the only thing missing might be a beverage holder. Did you experiment with incorporating that into your creation?

I thought about a cup holder but the center pad depth is around 2 inches, which is a little too shallow. I also thought about a pop out holder from the kneepad or RH side of the console, but there was a limited selection I could find of the type that would look right. Closest I go it was SS drop down cup holders from marine suppliers. Anyways probably better to discourage drinking in the D just in case of spills.
