View Full Version : Brake Brake master/resovoire leak

I filled up the fluid and bled the brakes from bone dry (I had blown out the lines) 2 days ago.

Tonight I noticed a leak. It had obviously accumulated for a few days under the gas tank because it was leaking from the freshly refurbished closing plate. Damn.

Anyway, it looks like the leak is at the seal between the resovoire and the master cylinder, the closet seal to the booster. I can see fluid there and it reappears after I clean it up.

Is this common? What do I need to do now?

Sounds like you need to pull the MC...check the bore and if it's OK, put a kit in it. (Dorman CMK351685)

Sorry, nix that ...somehow I read between the MC and booster.

Maybe remove the reservoir, check for cracks, and try re-seating the seal.

Make sure the rubber seals in the master that the reservoir plugs in to are seated all the way in to the casting. Sometimes one is not all the way in place and will cause a leak

I've successfully reseated them. I don't think we've ever had one that wouldn't work when positioned correctly in the master.

I just tried this. It still leaks, albeit much slower. I'll give it a day and see if it adjusts a bit better then try again.

If I wanted to replace this seal, could I get it locally? I'm still getting some leaking, but very slowly. Doesn't seem worth it to ship.

Is it the AMC crossover part?

I have no idea. And I think the AMC thing you are thinking of is the clutch master. I'm sure that seal is a unique i.e. not available part.
