SS Glo

I just polished the D with DMCH's SS Glo product. I'm happy with the results. It gives it that shiny, "wet" look. The louvres and bumpers are looking more black too. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but will the polish remain next time it's washed with car soap just like wax would? Or, will I be back to bare stainless next time it's washed?

It will wash off, especially if you use soap.

Honestly, you'll probably notice the look begin to fade before that though. The residue left behind by the polish that gives it the wet look only lasts so long before it simply evaporates. It's the biggest reason I dont like this polish and others like it is that if you dont keep up on it, it eventually makes the car look worse because when it evaporates, it becomes really blotchy/patchy. Dont get me wrong, it looks really good when the whole car is evenly and freshly coated, but it takes constant maintenance. I eventually had to stop because I just couldn't keep up on it. I know I had to use the product every 1-2 weeks otherwise it started looking rough. If you're only driving it on weekends or to carshows and just clean it before taking it out, then it's definitely manageable. But I was and often still drive the car daily and for that, it just took too much maintenance and upkeep to keep the finish. (plus the stuff isn't cheap) Not trying to keep you from using it or be a buzzkill. It's still a good product, just not for me.

I can see that happening. I noticed that a little goes a long way and I probably put it on too thick in a couple spots. I'll be interested to see how quickly it fades. Thanks for the advice.

I admit I love the stuff but Nick is correct, it requires upkeep. What I have found is that it builds up quickly if you're not carefull in the applications.

Here's what I do.

- Wash the car using mild soap - (Don't use any car wash soap with wax in it - Don't need it)
- I then use Bar Keepers Friend to polish the stainless. I prefer the premix over the powder. It seems to rinse away easier.
- Finally finish with the SS Glo. I spray on the cara nd use a cloth towel to wipe on in the direction of the grain. Most importantly I finish with a clean cloth diaper. Rubbing in the direction of the grain, the diaper smoothes out the application and absorbs excess SS Glo giving a nice consistant finish.
