VIN #4710 - 5 spd
VIN #2181 - Auto with gasflap hood
Here are some pics... rust free CA cars. The auto interior is in great shape, the 5spd needs some love. Both car's body panels are in great shape, 5spd has a slight impression on the T-top. Auto has zero dents.

Any idea why they were parked like that? I'm curious if they had problems before they were parked.

Congrats! I'm sure it's been done but I've never heard of anyone buying two Ds at the same time before. Well done! Any plans for them? Is one to be a daily driver and the other a garage queen?

Thanks! Actually the plan is to clean up the automatic, get it running and driving nicely and sell it... to fund a bigger build on the 5spd. I know it may be a bit sac-religious around here, but the plan for the 5spd is to drop a much more powerful engine in it (looking at V6 Camaro engine from current model cars 300+ hp)... and modernize the interior a bit, while keeping the outside looking fairly stock.

He means why were they parked & left to sit under tarps for years? They both obviously haven't been started in a long time by the look of the tires & crud on them.

You know there's a ton of them on ebay for $20 or so right?

You can tell by the dirt stains running down from the marker light that that car hasn't moved much. I'm curious why they were "abandoned in place."

The seller is 75 years old.
Crazy story, he took the tarps off for us to look at them, I bought them, we did the paperwork then a van pulls up. A guy about my age (30s) hops out and goes to talk to the homeowner, says he noticed the cars and he was driving by and wanted to buy them. They had been un-tarped for only 30 minutes! He was clearly disappointed to find out that I just bought them both.
I will post more pics (especially of the automatic) once I get them and clean them up. The automatic (without the stripe) is in surprisingly good shape on the interior/exerior. I think it will clean up incredibly well.
Thanks guys for all the well wishes and welcomes!

Just checked out that site, No California plates strangely. I also want to get older plates, The California "Sun set" style that was like 1984-1990. The used to be common but now I rarely see them, at least in decent shape.

Double owner here, but not for long. As soon as both boys graduate college (by Jan. '14) the car is officially theirs. Congrats!!
Regarding the blue CA plates, they're fine on your car as long as they are on the title. Don't give them up, just register as you would any other car....lucky you! California's YOM (Year of Manufacture) program only allows you to use plates up to 1969 for cars and 1972 for trucks as long as they are DMV clear. I've registered 3 cars ('55, '58, and '64) under this program and it's tough. The DMV scrutinizes every plate. They even used a magnet to see if mine were actually steel. Re-manufactured plates for any year are unusable.

Slow down Turbo... we just got 'em today. Going to get it running and driving first, it's been sitting for a few years. I'm the husky white dude holding the passenger door up, btw. I'm new here but I'll be asking lots of questions shortly.

Since no one else chimed in on his behalf, I'll say that if you guys want a good home for your car you should consider Chris. In many of our minds he's certainly earned the right of first refusal on any cars we might come across :)

Just an update... We are installing/have installed all new struts, rubber, tires. Next week starts flushing all the fluids and getting it up and running well, going through the electrical as well. Also the main headliner as well as the door headerliners will get replaced.
Its cleaning up nicely though, body and interior look really good, here is a quick picture.

Another update. I started a blog to track the progress of both builds. Right now we are focusing on "Marty", the gasflap, black interior automatic. We plan on getting it back on the road with a fresh lease on life and selling it in order to fund an extensively modified build of "McFly" the 5spd. Marty is now purring like a kitten. We got it up on the lift yesterday and were pleased to see a rust-free underbelly... got to love California cars.
I've got a ton of pictures added and Im tracking the progress daily at the link below for those that are interested:

For the manual, did you see Josh's thread about tuning the PRV up to 250hp without even needing a turbo? Nothing wrong with a good engine swap, but if you don't need crazy power a skilled rebuild of the PRV might be enough.

Its the journey, not the destination!
If I wanted a perfect car I would just go out and buy one. This is much more fun... in my opinion of course
