How to Test Stock fans removed from car

Hi all,

I removed my radiator setup. Removed stock fans. Wanted to know if there is a way to test them, see if they work.

If you still have them mounted in the shroud, just rig up a couple wires to a battery. It's not that difficult black is the ground.

I actually took them off the shroud.

Wasn't sure if I could test by connecting straight to battery, just in case.

Yes, you can hook them directly to the battery. I did that with mine when I removed them.

It might be wise to stick a fuse in the middle of one of the wires in case there's an internal short so you don't cause a fire. One of my fans had this and always blew the 30 amp fuse every time it turned on. Or just do it over a non-flammable surface like concrete.

Since you removed the shroud, find something heavy to hold the fans upright, in a similar orientation to a ceiling fan. Bricks, cinder blocks, 2x4's, etc. should be heavy enough to hold it in place while it's operating. The shroud just makes it easier since you can lay that flat on the ground without having the blades touch anything.

If the fans were working when they were in the car, you probably don't need a fuse outside of the car, but it certainly doesn't hurt. Here is a video of me running my fans outside the car, hooked directly to a battery. This is from when I had them posted for sale (they didn't sell).
