Front Grille Installation Issue

So after the re-installation of my front fascia, I've found that most of the "spring latch" clips that hold the grille in place are broken or missing. The grille will not stay in place. I ordered eight new "spring latch" clips, but the little peg/rivet things that hold the clips in place are not available from DMC. Could anyone offer some advice on how to secure those clips so I can re-attach the grille? Are the pegs/rivets a general hardware item that I could buy at Home Depot?

Here is a photo of the spring latch. The pegs go through the holes on both sides of the spring latch.

Take one of the clips to a hardware store so you can be sure to get the right size. Any rivet gun will do.

Use aluminum rivets as you will reduce the risk of damaging the fascia. Avoid drill out the fascia for rivets and size accordingly.

I bought both the clips and pins not to long ago from DMCH. I may have the old ones somewhere if you can not find them. I mounted the clips with screws and nylocking nuts so I could leave them "floating" to account for any misalignment. Seems to work great and takes a lot of force to pull the grill (after you remove the locking screws):wink:

I've removed all the old broken clips via drill. Doesn't look like anything was damaged in the process. I'm going to go to the hardware store today or tomorrow to find some appropriate pins/pegs and a rivet gun.

Thanks Bitsyncmaster. The nyloc nuts and screws are not a bad idea. I'll look into it.

I was told you could get these parts in stainless, I don't remember where though.

I got some extra long rivets that had washers of the appropriate size. That way when I'm pulling on the grill the washer distributes the pull onto the fascia instead of just the bulging part of the rivet.

Well, the grille is back on nice and tight.
