I remember that guy and him talking about putting this together..lol
Due to the surprising lack of results for this, this will have to suffice.

A D-Rex wannabe.
If you are going to mutilate something that is already very unique, there should at least be an original idea to go for, at least I think so. But I agree, D-rex wannabe for sure.

Even if he finished this project, it would have never looked good. The only surprisingly part to this story is if anyone buys this disaster at the asking price and finishes it to Gowdy's plans. Likely it won't ever sell and he'll have to part out what's left.
And if this end up being a scam, will you reimburse all the money paid by buyer?
That is why you should not post it in this section!

Oops - sorry if I did something wrong. No ill will was intended in my post.
This is NOT my car, nor do I have any personal knowledge of it. I was merely browsing the web, came across it, and thought that the 'uniqueness' of it (if you can call it that) might have interested other forum members - that's all.
Again, I'm sorry if I violated forum policy or rules.
Moderators - feel free to delete this thread if you wish.

No harm, no foul nightflyer.
FYI, normally posts like this are made in the Open Discussion area. The "for sale" area is reserved for stuff that you personally own (or want to buy).
Just to give forum members max exposure when they are selling.
In this particular case, mr Gowdy was well known back in the .com days :)

Thanks Dangermouse
So the community is familiar with the dealership offering this 'car?' Do they regularly sell DeLoreans? Why would Levy think it is a scam - usually even used car dealers must be licensed and bonded by the state they're operating in. Or have previous purchasers / members of the community been ripped off by this dealership? I couldn't find any complaints about the dealership searching the forum.
I guess I was confused, as there appears to be many random ebay / internet classified cars in the Cars For Sale Forum. Case in point from just the first page:
http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?6198-Black-DeLorean
http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?6092-Red-DeLorean-for-sale
Or are the forum members who posted those cars, as well as others similarly situated, personally financially guaranteeing that those cars are not scams (which totally confuses me, as the OP's mention that they don't own or have ever seen the cars they listed)??? And yet, those OP's received no warning from Levy.
BTW, I did not move the thread to the General DeLorean Discussion Forum - I assume a moderator did. If this belongs in the Open Discussion Forum, then maybe it should be moved there, or even deleted all together as I previously stated. I honestly don't care either way, as I only thought that other forum members may be interested (I'm definitely NOT interested - not my style).
Levy appears to be the one who has a problem with this thread and the forum it was originally posted to (which I honestly don't understand), but doesn't appear to hold the same standard to other similarly situated threads, as he posted no warnings about assuming financial responsibility on any of the other mis-classified postings in the Cars For Sale Forum or asking the moderators to move them. If I did anything to personally upset Levy, I'm sorry - I only wish I knew what it is that I did to upset him.
Maybe if Levy would explain?
I tried to PM Levy with an apology and asking him to explain the rules of the Cars For Sale Forum and why they appear to be inconsistently applied, but it said that his box was full and incapable of receiving any more PM's.

I believe one of his actions doing him in was posting a video of a phone call to fake a disability and get state aid. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

I said that they are "normally" posted in Open Discussion. I guess a couple are missed by the mods.
I don't think anyone here has had experience with Gowdy Autosales per se. But Joey Gowdy...........
Looooong story short: The "proprietor", Joey Gowdy was a member of our first iteration (DMCTalk.com). He owns a General Lee and joined the forum wanting to make a Redneck Delorean. He sourced a tub and panels from FL, shipped it to MS and started work. IIRC the frame and motor came from a ford Bronco II
He gave members amusement by always being in any or the progress photos of the build that he made. I guess they would be called "selfies" today (see, he was a visionary). He would post odd threads about how he was able to get money from the govt by faking disability. There was a bunch of other stuff not worth getting into. Claimed to be bipolar. Anyway he started to be abusive and send abusive PMs iirc and was eventually banned ( becoming the first banned member I think). He was then banned from the Dodge Charger forum for similar reasons and one of their members paid us a visit.
All very dramatic.
So Joey is real and the 4x4 is real, or at least was real. Is it worth $15k? That's up to the buyer.
Rich W did it much better, but in fairness it's probable exactly what it was set out to be. - a redneck DeLorean 4x4 thing.

WOW - I honestly had no idea!
That's why nothing came up when i searched for the dealership's web address on this site - the search had to be for 'JoeyGowdy'.
Very interesting.
Again - NOT my vehicle, I have never seen the vehicle, and I accept no liability should the vehicle listed for sale in the thread turn out to be a scam.
I guess I was confused, as there appears to be many random ebay / internet classified cars in the Cars For Sale Forum.
Sorry about not responding earlier (my DSL has been popping in and out and we are under a massive bot attack).
I moved it to the General DeLorean Discussion section because the For Sale Section Rules (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?5614-For-sale-section-rules-please-read-before-posting!!) say one must own the item for sale (with a few exceptions). Note that is where an item one does not own belongs, not in the Open Section, unless the OP wants to allow discussion, colorful language, or the nature of the item warrants it (to a point ;-)
FWIW, there are some threads in the section that were created before the rules changed, or simply missed, etc.
All is well... :rock_on:

Well, I stand corrected.
I have always understood the General section to be a more tech-minded area
"Tech help and certain general discussions of the DeLorean, DeLorean Motor Company, and John Z. DeLorean".
I thought that 3rd party postings of cars and parts for sale are posted in the Open area for the very reason of discussion
"Random DeLorean topics, introductions, Jokes, bttf, Off-topic banter... almost anything goes. Please be sure to follow the forum rules"
so that people who only frequent the forum for technical help don't have to scroll through all the other crap.
But I will gladly take the mods advice. 8)
But, but...but JG and that monstrosity are part of our history!
Seriously, I see what you are saying. But it seems to me that if someone spots a D a member might be interested in, it would be something for general delorean discussion (along with other non-tech things "good for the community"...big tech meets/open house/certain request/etc.) But if it has a potential to get members in an uproar/endless arguing/etc, it should go in the open discussion...with all of the other BS a lot of people have complained about and try to avoid??
I have moved/asked people to put those (and ones they want to allow posts from non-interested members, which opens up a can of worms) in the open section, obviously creating most of the confusion...
Ron:angry_whip:
I can see lumping them together working well -- Post up in forum support and see what people think...easy enough to edit/clarify the rules...

The one Rich found is much better looking than the one listed by Gowdy Auto Sales - at the same asking price and an even better bottom line price!
How many known 4x4 conversions are out there??? Certainly, Rich's own D-Rex is the most well known (and probably best done).
Often imitated, never duplicated!

The photo Rich posted is actually of D-Rex before he bought it and worked his magic on it.
I think there are only a total of 2 DeLoreans 4x4s (some might say, only 1.5)

If this D is actually in the hands of a real dealership now, and being sold as a used car, I'm assuming it runs and drives? In that case, not sure of the value, but it definitely wouldn't be worthless.

It looks like JG owns the dealership in question (Gowdy Auto Sales.com) so really anything is possible. That picture on the listing doesn't exactly portray it in the best light, if it's a running example.

It's interesting to note that in the ad on the car dealership's website, it states that the car's engine is a "2.9L v6 177cui," so I'm guessing that it's using the Ford Cologne V-6, as opposed to the DeLorean's 2.85L (174 cubic inch) PRV. The archived thread on this site would appear to confirm this.
Definitely doesn't look very good with the front spoiler partially hanging off, the cabin surround door weather stripping falling into the car, what appears to be an incomplete interior, and no windshield.
Caveat Emptor!
Sounds right since it is on a Bronco II frame...

I have a hard time comprehending why anyone would consider building this. The D-Rex is neat because it has the height, huge tires, finish and robustness to be a proper monster truck. While obviously not an everyday vehicle, it looks like a lot of fun to drive or see at events. This thing is just an old truck with a broken down DMC-12 shell shoved on top.

I saw that thread, which is why I'm confused; for the amount of work he put into building it, he could've made a decent car (e.g. restored and even engine swapped a project DMC). I mean, if you're into 4WD, swapping an FWD subframe (maybe driven with a viscous coupler) into a standard DMC-12 would be a great project. Perhaps I'm not up on 'redneck culture' but does anyone really want to make a car that looks like this?

See, there's your problem :).
iirc, what he bought from FL was only the tub, panels and VIN. No frame. So the new owner would have to make a frame anyway.

Browsing his "dealer" site, I see that he has some fine vehicular conveyances for sale. The Cushman is particularly attractive for only $250.
As an added customer benefit, I see that when you purchase a vehicle from GAS, they post your name, address and phone number next to your selected choice (See the "sold in 2009" tab. Hi to Greg Kilpatrick and Ben Ferguson, lucky DeLorean purchasers. Now that's what I call Customer Service!!
