Has anyone installed a reverse/backup camera in their DeLorean? I'm hoping to find something not too expensive that can install subtly on the top of the license plate. Everything I see on Amazon looks delicate (cheap) and shiny (gaudy).

Interested in this one too.
I have one of those in my daily driver and it should be pointing downwards. Ideally into the rear facia right between the licence plate illunination, this way you will not see the lens either
But you need to activate the signal of reverse into your radio as well, so the screen switches to the camera when you go into reverse. No idea where that cable is.

I've been meaning to ask a similar question for a while, but not exactly the same...
Does anybody have experience with the rear view mirror/screen portion of back up cameras? 99% of the ones I see are giant clip-ons to the regular mirror. I'm looking a a replacement mirror, with a screen inside it, as they come from the factory on cars with cameras.

I swear I was looking at a photo of a back-up camera on a D just this week, but can't find it now.

I would have actually said that it was john05141, but clearly not. Welmoed perhaps?

Escort Radar makes a backup camera system, one version uses a dedicated monitor, the other one integrates into a supplied rear view mirror. I bought the Smartsite Mini for our Silverado and currently in the process of installing it. The camera itself is very small, about the size of the license plate lights on the DeLorean, in fact would probably fit well in the area and blend in. On the Silverado, I placed it right above the receiver, tucked into this area where there's a support bracket (see photo below). The monitor is very small also, about 2/3rds the size of a smart phone. It comes with a suction cup mount but has a flat back so you could Velcro it on place too. It is wired, but I prefer that to wireless systems.

So far I only have the camera mounted. Did test it out by hooking everything up to raw 12v and picture looks great. I was actually planning on working on it this weekend, and if I finish it up can post more pictures. One thing I will say about Escort is that they have awesome tech support and stand by their products. There is a web forum too which has great information and help. Based on their customer service they have a lifetime customer out of me. My radar detector mount broke one day, called them up to order a new one, replacement sent no questions asked, no charge. Hard to find companies who stand by their products, this one does!

I have one with a mirror-embedded LCD. Made sense since we didn't have an original mirror for my car anyway. Camera is behind the rear fascia with a little viewing hole. Chris made a spreader plate to make the new mirror mount onto the same glass area as the original (out of the box it used a very small mount).

I've installed such a device, back in 1995.
So, it's not a modern unit like we can find today, I mean smaller camera and LCD monitor.
To tell the truth, I've never really find it very useful but sometime it can be fun on the freeway to see some people behind you or when you do reverse to see if there is somethings behind you.
Here are a few pictures.

Local friend of mine installed one in his delorean that integrates with his car stereo I believe. He's not on the DMCtalk as far as as I know but I could ask him about it if there's interest.

I think Chris4099 even helped with the install.

Cheers

Do you have any more info about it? Brand? Price? Purchase location? Ease of installation?

Awesome!
That's perfect, the camera is perfectly hidden between the two light of the license plate ;)

Sorry was a typo - it's a JVC not a JVX.

you can google the rest or use the search here - I posted it a least 3 times in the last years.
