blower fan whine

My blower fan (not the motor) is whining. I pulled it and sprayed a little silicone lube and it stopped for about a day and started again. Do the plastic finned fans fail or do I need to put heavy duty grease on it. Or..do should I just buy a new one?

If it doesn't have a lot of time on it you can usually remove the blades, clean/lube the bearings and it is good to go for years. (They have oillite/brass bearings. Usually fine dirt gets into them and causes the problem.)
(I can't remember if you can easily take it apart from there or have to drill a tiny hole on some of them. Maybe someone else who has done it will post...Otherwise, I'll try to remember to look at a spare I have and post up tomorrow AM ;-)
