So what's the going rate for a used, running motor?

I'm curious what a complete running stock motor is worth, minus the fuel injection components. New or used is fine...but a running motor I can drop in and run.

I see 2.8L Volvo and 3.0L PRV's sell for anywhere between $250-$800, if that helps any.

I guess I should clarify. I'd like to know about a stock DMC configuration motor. Ready to drop in and go, no modifications necessary (e.g. lower cradle).

Back in 2009 before I started rebuilding my engine, I was quoted $800 for a running 25k mile long block with no fuel or waterpump. Engine sold before I could buy it.

Morpheus just recently inquired as to the price of a new/crate or new/rebuilt motor and was quoted $9,000 by Josh at DPI.

You could try calling this place... It says "core" but that could mean any number of things. The block/heads/etc could all be fine. If you're just looking for an estimate on price this may help give you an idea.

I stopped by this place months ago, the guy I talked to said they had a DeLorean 10 years ago. He said they didn't have the engine, He didn't check the computer so maybe it was someone who didn't know what he was talking about.

It sounds like this place sucks at updating their inventory then.

That means there are offically zero DeLorean engines on car-part.com, unless you consider the bogus "flux capacitor only" listings :facepalm:

Car-Part is excellent for most other makes/models, but I guess there aren't many DeLorean parts in salvage yards anymore.

I'm actually talking to Morpheus about the motor but don't want to ask too much...or shoot myself in the foot on the price. $2-$3k sounds like a good range. Naturally I'd hope for closer to $9k but that's motor swap money.

I sold my complete running PRV engine right after it was pulled from the car for $1,500. The motor ran great up until the day I pulled it into the garage and removed it, and it had about 15,000 miles on it. Very clean motor, had painted valve covers, manifolds, etc. fairly new injectors, WUR, distributor, and more. Perfect for a car that had a bad engine but wasnt worth putting a crate/stage II into. Both the seller and myself agreed that this was a very fair price.

I believe 2k is way too much for a incomplete motor, unless you know for sure that is a very good running motor and buyer really needs it.

I agree. Not trying to hinder anything but that seems way high for a motor that doesn't have any fuel components. Those are the most expensive parts of the engine. I was thrilled with $1500 for everything including the fuel components. The market may have changed or be different in that area but still. Also as another price point, I paid $2500 for a complete, ready to drop in LS1 including the wiring harness and computer. Obviously I had to do a lot of custom stuff and get other parts to make it work (all which drove the price up considerably) but if I had had an LS1 car, it would have been a direct drop in.
