Road trip!

It's time for the annual pilgrimage to the Northeast to take the kids up to summer camp and visit the inlaws. We are transplanted Yankees (15 years now) and still have family on Long Island. My roots were in Poughkeepsie area of NY, but my folks have since passed away. This year's trip is a bit longer since we are stopping to visit 5 universities for my son to consider in addition to UT, A&M and TTech.

Sunday 6/9/13 - Greenville, AL
Monday - Auburn University, night in Atlanta
Tuesday - GA Tech University, night in Blacksburg, VA
Wednesday - VA Tech University, night in Pittsburgh, PA
Thursday - Carnegie Mellon University, night in Troy, NY
Friday - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, night in Troy, NY (my Alma mater and former stomping ground)
Saturday - Drop kids at camp in the Berkshires, MA and high tail it to NYC
Sunday - Flight to Miami, 6 night cruise in the Caribbean!
Saturday - Back to LGA, out to Shirley on Long Island
Wednesday - Dad flies home to Houston while wife lounges at beach and drives back a month later................ whazzup with that?


If anyone lives along this path and wants to introduce themselves and have a beer, I'm game! Will have computer and will watch posts.

Staying the evening at the Marriott Fairfield right near Olympic park area.... short shot from Auburn, so ought to be there mid/late afternoon. Are you local?

Cool. We are staying at the Holiday Inn right across from campus. I'm not sure what time we'll get there, but it will probably be about 7-8 since we won't be leaving Atlanta until after lunch sometime.... What was your major?

Meeting up with Kevin in Blacksburg in a little while. Just made the drive up from Atlanta. We were really impressed with GA Tech; you'd never know you were in the middle of Atlanta. Nice place. Son liked it too.

We came up 77 past Charlotte, then 81. Not our normal Tennessee route.
Your name came up tonight as I met with Kevin. I showed him your MyLifeBridge artwork on my business card and told him the story.

Yeah, it looks like I missed a couple of folks along the route which is a shame. It's always good to put faces with names. Two more stops; Pittsburgh (right near Carnegie Mellon) tomorrow night and Troy NY on Thurs & Friday. Cruise on Sunday. wooo hooo!

If you want to hit one more college, in the Berkshires on Sat AM, check out Simon's Rock in Great Barrington (my alma mater). Seems pretty different from the large schools you have selected. Approx. 300 students, 50 Faculty, 500 acres. Great Campus - small classes and lots of opportunities for independent study programs. Its a high quality liberal arts college. It takes traditional students, as well as early entrance students after 10th or 11th grade as well. AA and BA/BS programs. PM for more info if needed.

Thanks David, I'm very familiar with Simon's Rock as I grew up in Upstate New York and went to school in Troy. The kid's camp is actually just down the road from GB.
Nice price tag with that school too! My son is big time science/engineering, so liberal arts isn't really his thing.

Roman; no, have the minivan. And dropped a cool grand on a set of new tires in Blacksburg this morning. Huge strip came of DR tire. Lucky didn't blow out. All were getting close, so I did it. Nice ride to Pittsburgh as a result!
