For those looking for a cheap car, you have probably seen this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DeLorean-DMC-1981-delorean-dmc-car-drives-and-stops-straight-no-smoking-leaks-/171058115078?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item27d3dbb206&vxp=mtr
16246?
Only $6800? Bargain, or Too good to be true? You decide.
That VIN was listed back in April on Autotrader also. Though then, it was stainless, had a picture of the VIN plate and were asking $22,000. The location then was Port Lucie FL, which matches the autocheck report.
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?zip=32034&endYear=2014&showcaseOwnerId=0&startYear=1981&makeCode1=DELOREAN&sellerTypes=b&searchRadius=0&mmt=%5BDELOREAN%5B%5D%5B%5D%5D&listingId=346096528&listingIndex=4&Log=0
Perhaps the red car seller has just screwed up the VIN?
I have no affiliation to either car, just don't want to see a future owner taken advantage of.

When a seller has "0" feedback, 99% of them are a scam.

Hmmm...
The red car on eBay has a gas flap hood, non-integrated door pulls, a fender mount antenna, the Craig stereo, and a console mount clock. Unless great lengths were taken to make the car appear to be an earlier VIN than it actually is, there's no way it's an '83, as the listed VIN would suggest. Assuming everything is original to the car, and in combination with the silver wheels, that would put the true VIN somewhere between 1885-3200.
If it's a VIN error, I don't see how the seller could have screwed it up that badly.
Definitely a SCAM!!!

The pics look like a 2000 series Delorean that was for sale in Canada last year that everyone said was fishy. I call BS on this one!!

Just a side note on the second ad (the stainless one, not the red one)... I think this is the first car I have seen or heard of that has the fascias painted the same way mine are. i.e. silver/lighter than the normal darkish grey colour.
This is a photo of mine for reference.

Actually mine were the same color as yours before I repainted them darker. I will go back to the original lighter color as I prefer it.

Certainly looks like it. Background looks the same too.
Odd that the recent pics are different from the ones in that thread.

Well the reserve is over $7000 so that $6800 number must have been copied and pasted with the rest of the text from a craigslist scam listing.

It seems that this was not the first try of the guy(s) to make some money. I asked him for a picture of the VIN plate. This was the reply:
Hello,
I am glad that you are interested in my DMC. It's a 1981 DeLorean DMC. Car is rust free.
Exterior is obviously not stainless. Each to their own but the car suits red. Car is clean inside and out. Car starts up first time, just leave your foot off the gas pedal. Car drives and stops straight. No obvious smoking, leaks, rattles or clunks. All gauges etc. work fine..
I legally own a clear title, free of any liens or loans, under my name. Not interested in a trade and my final price is $6,800.
Just want to sell it ASAP, I am using eBay as my ex-wife suggested, she also sold her Beetle, without any headaches!
First of all please let me know where are you located ?
I will also need to know if you require a loan ? Or the funds are available ?
Thank You !
Daniel Renzini
You can find the name and similar text for other types of cars on the internet.

I just got the following 2nd reply from him too:
James,
I am recently moved back at my residence house in Lincoln, NE because i just finished the divorce with my ex wife. The car is here with me but shipping can be arranged and I will cover and handle the shipping anywhere in US. The car will be arriving at your home in 3-5 days. You can see the car before committing to buy it and to eliminate any concerns. From the moment that the car arrives at your door, you will have 5 days to test drive the car or inspected anywhere (dealership or personal mechanic). If the car doesn't match to my description or if you find anything wrong with it, you can send it back at my expense with no questions asked, but I'm sure that will be not the case...
If interested, e-mail me your whole name and phone # and I will forward it to eBay so they can send you more details on how this works.
Thank you,
Daniel Renzini
I called his bluff and said that my grandparents live in Lincoln and they can come pay him in cash and pick up the car in person and to give me an address and time to do the deal. His reply was "great."
I replied that his message was cut off and I didn't get an address or phone number and he replied "yes."
I replied "?" and got the same "yes" response again. Looks like he ran out of lies.

[QUOTE=NightFlyer;108165]Looks like that guy is still up to the same old tricks:
This guy (probably an enterprising syndicate) has pulled the same scam with guns, VWs, Jeeps, etc., and must experience some success given the persistence. Once you bid through E-Bay and he is able to identify you, he sends you his own special E-Bay form (completely by-passing E-Bay) eliciting bank and payment information to close the deal. Wonder how many people completed and returned the form thinking they had just made a really good deal.

That is how it usually works.
I have had such an incident wanting to buy a Dodge charger 7 years ago.
The I got a Bank account number to send the amount.
I decoded that bank account and was not in the US.
It was an account of a German Bank branch in Slovakia.
Told the guy I have pinned his details to FBI and Interpol, the Headquarters in Germany and the local bank authorities. and that they are soon to knock on his door.
I got my share of French....:swear1::smashfreak:

They just get a good laugh at you. They know FBI, Interpol and any other agency will not even listen to you unless a crime was committed already. But at least they now know you are not going to fall for it.
