Fuel Pump Sealing Ring/ Return Line Seal Question

I went to finish up the install on the fuel pump and came across this question that I would appreciate feedback on:

Does the Fuel Return Line require an air/gas tight seal on the Fuel Pump Sealing Ring? (orange circle in picture.) Mine is loose and I've been thinking of adding a clamp on the inside of the boot that would seal this up.

There is a clamp the factory used - indeed on the inside of the boot - to make a tight seal.
It's SP10573 on DMCH's fuel and emissions parts section (no. 9), but it seems no longer available.
If you don't have or can't get (=buy) that clamp, you could try and use a small size tie-wrap.

If that boot is not sealed, you will get gas on top of the fuel pump when your tank is full. So yes, you need it clamped.

I have a add on to this. The fuel pump issue seems to be THE weak link in the DELOREAN. Has anyone installed another kind of fuel pump outside of the tank? I know that some volvos have 2 pumps inline. It seems that with so many issues it might be smart to go to another way of 'doing business'.

Had this been available when I bought the car, I would have ordered it. I had already ordered and received all the fuel system parts, then moments later, this becomes available... :frown:

I'm just now getting around to assembling the car.
