BTW - Who can name the '80's film that featured this song in the soundtrack without googling?

I have to say, as a musician I may have some odd musical tastes, but this is not true! Leaving my immense L-O-V-E for Donald Fagen apart, I'm a huge fan of 70s and 80s funk and fusion, jazz and pop.

I think I'll be travelling with some soul or rhythm n blues on, it depends on the situation!

For sure, my father will always put Rolling Stones records on, he's so fond of them!

I'm w/ you on Fagen. Steely Dan is in my top 5 all time favorite groups list. Fagen & Becker's solo stuff is pretty solid too.

Your #1 reminded me of this guy and his DeLorean, granted the song he's playing is merely sampling Toto's Africa. Looks like he took a lot of heat over on YouTube for his musical tastes - but I like JoJo's Anything

Hahaha... but, c'mon... there's some Tragically Hip in there! I was a kid in the 80s when Honeymoon Suite passed through my sleeply little town and I wasn't allowed to go... but I spent my University years in Kingston... and there is no better place to be a Hip fan!

(and on a side note, I strolled into a bar called AJ's Hanger one (of many) nights and the music sounded good, decent DJ or something, and they were playing One Day in Your Life by 54-40 I think it was. Oddly enough, after getting to the front of the bar and close enough to see the stage... 54-40 was actually there! Not too shabby for a $5 cover charge!!)

Nice! That's all good... if you spotted some Milli Vanilli in that playlist, that was no accident. I'll definitely admit to liking me some Blame it on the Rain back in the day as well as now. Heck, I still think Waterworld was a great movie!!! lol

Now, where did I put my Platinum Blonde album... :)

I won't post any videos, so I'll just list some of the music I put on my mp3 player for long trips.

Gentle Giant
Peter Gabriel/Genesis (before Phil Collins started singing)
Brand X
U.K.
Steely Dan
Yes
Jackson Browne
King Crimson
Emerson, Lake, & Palmer
Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler
L.T.D.
Earth, Wind, & Fire
Tower of Power
Oscar Peterson
Chet Baker
Clark Terry
Phil Woods
Paul Desmond
Ella Fitzgerald
Count Basie
Patrick Williams
Bruce Hornsby
Pat Metheny
The Hollies
Sting
Eric Bibb
Alison Krauss & Union Station
Béla Fleck/Edgar Meyer
Steve Tibbetts
Stereolab
Quincy Jones
Kenny Davern
Urbie Green
Martin Taylor
Tierney Sutton
Fred Hersch
Rick Trolsen
Booker T
David Byrne
Stevie Wonder
Kevin Gilbert
Solomon Burke
Mickey Hart
New Cool Collective
Van Morrison
Squeeze
Roberta Flack
Warren Zevon
Fishbone
Thomas Dolby

I'm sure there are a few I forgot, especially in the funk and jazz veins, but you get the idea. I like to mix it up.

I don't listen to classical music in the car because the dynamic range is too wide for the environment. So I generally tend to stick with recordings/artists/genres that are pretty stable in terms of dynamics.

Farrar, it is hard to disagree with any of your list. Very fine music.
But if anyone is going to mention RUSH, then you will know that you must allow the creative forces to ascend and inhabit your whole being!!!!!! BTW the quality of this video is very dark and it probably needs to be brightened before you can watch it. But it is RUSH at their finest. I listen to this all the time in my D! Listen to the musicianship! This cannot be overlooked:

My playlist is very non-traditional, but here goes:

Track 1 - the roar of the engine on my ridiculously loud exhaust (even idle is loud)
Track 2 - Spectators shouting "OMG HOLY SHIT A DELOREAN!!! NICE CAR DUDE!!!"

I honestly never listen to the radio. I finally hooked it up this past weekend just to see if it worked, and everything does, but I'll be selling it soon. Call me crazy, but I'm swapping it out for one of those drawer/cupholder combos I got off eBay. Might as well make use of the space, right? :)

(And if I ever change my mind, I'll get an HD radio instead ;) )

I have many different playlists depending upon mood when I drive the D. Or at least in this case when I used to, but that's a different story... Anyway, there are lots of songs that I listen to that again reflect my mood, but only a few that reflect how I feel about my car. This one sums it up quite nicely:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9JuAx_CB6o

My milestone songs though are ones that always remind me of unique times in my car when they randomly played on the stereo.

First time I test drove the car:
California Dreamin'
Mama's and the Papa's

When the deal was done and I got in to drive her home:
Sympathy for the Devil
Rolling Stones

First time I surpassed 100mph:
Atom Bomb
Fluke

The last song that ever played in her when I killed the engine and she ran for the final time:
Blue Skies
BT f/Tori Amos

The one song I promised myself I'd play once she hits the road again:
The Dream
Irene Cara

Funny Enough that you brink up "My Sharona," it reminds me of an experience my old boss had. He had just bought this El Camino. It was immaculate, had the Small block Chevy, wood grain interior, deluxe wheels. Only problem was: there was a cassette stuck in the tape deck... and it was The Knack... and it played My Sharona... on REPEAT! lol

Sticking with the thread though. I like to stick to my early 80's stuff.

Rush-Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, Signals <-- that kind of stays with the car

The Police- Zenyatta Mondatta, Regatta De Blanc, and Ghost in the Machine

Journey-Escape (Kind of comes with the territory, eh?)

For Your Eyes Only soundtrack- Bill Conti is a great composer. Sure, its a soundtrack but it just SCREAMS early 80's!!

A' Ha- Hunting High and Low (Now, this one is definitive for those, ahem, Hi notes)

Eric Johnson- Austin City Limits

Van Halen-1984

lastly, you cant forget good ole' Huey- Picture This, Sports (Too Mainstream but he has a few underrated ones)

Man, this is a thread I'm stoked for! I've been dreaming of owning a D for as long as I can remember and have taken a long path to (future) ownership. Still a few months out from hunting for one but I can't wait to dub my playlist on a C-90 cassette and put it in a Craig radio as I drive out onto the road for the first time. I've preemptively named the tape "Victory Lap." :race: Most are cheesy ending credit types of songs, but they at least capture the spirit of concluding a long journey. Here's one of 'em from Side B.

I'd test the original Craig tape deck with a tape you don't care about first. I think these things had rubber belts and stuff internal that disintegrate over the years, yielding eaten tapes. I've yet to test the tape deck portion of my unit.

I usually just use an iPhone/iPod. When I redo the carpets, seals, and rear panels... I'll get a more permanent stereo solution.

There are certainly better orchestrations than this one, The Blues Brothers did a nice cover that is actually on my play list - but from an 80's point of view I'll post this "original" one... Tell me this doesn't inspire some cool ideas for the two dummy switches in the center console...

Some 80s music trivia... was looking back at some funny bands from the 80s and Googled who the "other half of Wham!" was. His name was Andrew Ridgeley. Not much of a music career after George Michael went his own way, but the funny part is who his long term partner has been... one of the members of the band Bananarama. She's pretty smoking even 3 decades later.

I guess if you're both famous at the same time these things can happen... like Spice Girls and soccer players... or pro NBA players (and now a DeLorean owner) and a Desperate Housewife. Bizarre.

I'm thinking three things:

1) I like it.
2) HTH do I not remember them?
3) Man, I had a lotta fun in the 80's...

I like the way you think, mister!

When I get a DeLorean, I'm going to crank the theme from Miami Vice like in The Wedding Singer.....that'll be my entire soundtrack.

Blue Tears deserved to be bigger than they were...

There were so many good bands like this in the sea of 80's bands. It's as if there were enough 80's bands to span 3 decades [or more] but unfortunately, not even a full decade to fit them all in. Then along came grunge with all the whiners to put the last nail in..... (sonofa! :angry0: )

BTW, yesterday was throwback Thursday on Facebook....good 80's hairspray pics from my crowd -lol!

Coming up will be a few of my favorites that I'll have on my cruise tape.....

Here in Ireland we have a radio station called Today FM that has a show on Friday evenings called Friday Night 80s, which plays, you've guessed it, 80s songs.
Between the songs they play those little interstitials / jingles, these usually take the form of audio clips from 80s movies. I had the DMC out for a spin this evening and by coincidence the Doc Brown "serious shit" snippet popped up :headbang:

I find playing anything outside the 80's in the DeLorean weird. Probably helps that I grew up in the 80's and actually still like the music. I have an updated stero with iPhone connection and just keep my "DeLorean 80's mix" on repeat....Huey, Journey, Mellencamp, Seger, Springsteen, and some Canadian content mixed in for good measure...Adams, Red Rider, Loverboy, Skid Row, the Hip to name a few.

This was the anthem of the summer. "I got gas in the tank, I got money in the bank..." Well, one of those things is probably true when you have a DeLorean :p
