So is that stevedmc's face book deloreans for sale page or Chris burns?

Does that really need to be explained?

Obviously, stevedmc is promoting Chris Burn's DeLorean's For Sale Facebook page on the new forum.

What exactly led you to believe that stevedmc was somehow attempting to asserting ownership over Chris' FB page? :hmm:

Ok... I'm confused but maybe that's the entire point. I see what I would believe would be a list of forum members here. Of course he could have created them to provide an illusion...

I have only one question: Why?

Steve and Bill have been experimenting with alternative "unmoderated" forums for a while, and this is their most recent development. Several members from here are also members on DMCToday.

Soon there will be as many forums as there are owners :)

Oh jesh. Copy this sight almost exactly, and get the banned members together so they can all pat themselves on the back and say there there. How many discussions can they really have about a full size spare or a ford carburetor? That and the classic silly little plastic car debate.....

Roger that, I find it amusing how some members post on DMCToday trashing DMCTalk, then those same members post here trashing DMCToday.

I don't have a problem with any forum right off the bat. I have accounts here, at DMCHelp, and some of the overseas forums as well. And so far, DMCToday is pretty civil. I took a time-out from DMCTalk before. I've already taken a time-out from DMCToday in its Google Groups incarnation, when Bill assumed that every message was aimed directly at him and started getting tetchy because I was posting links to pictures here. Each group of folks has its strengths and weaknesses, just like each person does, but I for one am willing to give DMCToday a chance. It's already more active than DMCHelp...

P.S. It's spelled "bollocks."

It just started - what do you expect? Do you honestly think that on the day Talk was launched that there were instantly 50,000 posts and hundreds of topics?

And what hatred?!?!

That's not hard - I joined DMCHelp a year and a half ago and am STILL waiting for my account to be activated (even sent an email to the admin address). There has been a whole five or so posts made there during that time :)

And what hatred?!?!

That's a very good question. I'm not going to start any kind of forum war, but lets stop playing all the charades and such.

Perhaps you can tell me why the banned members who decided this board is soo bad, and have so many bad things to say about DMCTalk that they need to start an entire forum to talk amongst themselves about how bad we are, have nothing better but to sit around and make up multiple log ins to participate in discussions on DMCTalk or to hide who they are to troll and get kicked off repeatedly, thinking they've accomplished something amazing?

I mean, honestly. Not one person removed from DMCTalk was done so overnight. I've even gone as far as personally meeting one of them face to face before he was permanently banned, asking him to please stop with the unnecessary postings and stop harassing other members, but to no avail... yet this person thinks it's so funny to keep getting banned over and over again, and in one instance even put up a video of himself making another fake login and posting it on the forum via Youtube? And honestly, he's not the only one. It's a big joke amongst a few of them about how many logins they are on DMCTalk with. Do they honestly think people don't tell us? It's no secret... one of them even advertised it on his Facebook page.

But, do we deserve this? Besides spambots and fake accounts, we have not permanently banned any members from DMCTalk in a VERY long while. We even re-activated a previously banned person's account after he apologized and promised that he'd watch his post tones, and we haven't had a single issue since then. From the group that wishes to harass our forum, never an apology, never an attempt to come back as useful, contributing members like all our other members and participants. Instead, they decided to keep pushing a joke that is only funny to them, and a disruption to everyone else who are actually here on DMCTalk to learn, share, and have a good time.

I had a discussion about bringing one of them back, if I could talk with them and maybe get them to change the way he presents his information and the way he seemed to hold grudges against people by constantly beating old topics to death and egging the persons on. This person may be a wealth of knowledge about deloreans, but because they decided to harass the forum under a fake login, there is no point.

There is no winning with certain people, NightFlyer. We ask that people no longer welcome on our forum be respectful enough to stay away once banned, but instead we get the opposite. We then get told how unfair and horrible we are, and yet they keep coming back to this 'horrible' forum to harass our members.

Ironically I heard a story of one such banned member refusing to partake in a Harlem Shake video due to his religious beliefs, because of lyrics or whatever was his view was during a recent local tech day, which is fine... yet that same person who is of such high moral standards finds no difficulty harassing us repeatedly with his logins and not-so-unnoticed anonymous postings. We tell a person repeatedly they are not welcome because of their actions, and what do they do? They come back again and again and again.

Do you see us going over to their forum and trying to disrupt it? Absolutely not. We don't rule the internet, and anyone is welcome to start their own forum. We just ask they be respectable enough to allow us to continue our business which they did not want to remain a part of. Apparently that is too much to ask.

We are here to keep the information cycle going. We are here to keep people's cars running in a non-hostile environment. We are here for a purpose of doing things that will help other members in the long run.
If Joe Smith is stuck on the side of the road posting from his cell phone asking for help and ideas about what could be wrong with his car, how does a member calling him a "moron" or "idiot", or making comments like "I like pancakes" in his thread help Mr. Joe Smith get home? It doesn't. How does telling a new owner that just came onto the forum to learn how to fix his car for the first time learn anything by a member saying things like "wow, way to f-up your car... good luck with that..." going to teach him anything? THESE are the people no longer welcome on here. This is why we have to moderate posts and remove people who are just out there to see themselves make posts, no matter if they are useful or not. It seems like the only persons who do not care to acknowledge this are the ones who were banned.

I wish them luck on their unmoderated forum. If I need a place to get replica Seiko watches or Nigerian lotto tickets, or get made fun of for asking a simple question, I know where to search.

If I want to really learn about DeLoreans without all the drama, and some of the best REAL technical advice not requiring duct tape and lawn mower parts, I'll stick with and invest my time with DMCTalk.

I think Steve will like it since he used the original and it's on par with his humor. Let me say absolutely no disrespect is meant whatsoever, I just thought it would bring a smile:

In all honestly, I admittedly have no idea what went on around here before I became active, thus I can't answer any of your questions with any sort of particularity, knowledge, or experience.

What I do notice is that many of Bill's past contributions, such as his ground wiring schematic, are still regularly referenced by the members of this forum. And Steve's videos have provided me and other owners with an insight into the workings of the car that just can't be matched by mere written descriptions and photos alone. Add to that, they're both extremely pro-active about helping others work on their cars and appear to be genuinely decent and selfless people.

Honestly, it's the internet - if people don't want to read Bill and Martin G get into hypothetical arguments or improvised DIY repairs with "duct tape and lawn mower parts," that's fine - no one that I'm aware of is forcing anyone to read or interact with such postings. In fact, and correct me if I'm wrong on this, but Talk even has an option where the individual users/members can choose to ignore posts from other members they don't like or engage in humor that they apparently don't understand. Ever stop to think that perhaps the reason some former members became belligerent is because some members reacted to their simplistic and use what ever is available to you repair suggestions with negativity, disdain, and a holier than though stuck up attitude, as is exemplified by remarks such as "duct tape and lawn mower parts?" I'm just sayin.... before judging, it's best to look in the mirror.

Some members take themselves far too seriously and appear to just like to complain about anything that they personally don't approve of or rubs them the wrong way. And while they have every right to complain, I also have the right to view that as being petty, completely unnecessary, and extremely egotistical.

And when I asked 'what hatred,' I was referring to that which is contained on the new forum, and not someone's mere perceptions, and yet, no specific examples could be provided by anyone of displays of hatred on the new forum. Maybe that's because there isn't any hatred displayed on the new forum....

Humility, moderation, and not taking anything personal - especially crap on the internet, is the key to a happy life for me. Personally though, I'd aim a little higher than a replica Seiko - at least an Omega, Rolex, or Bvlgari

Honestly, that wouldn't have effected me one way or the other. That thread had already delineated into a supposedly forbidden political argument, even though I still contend that it was merely an ideological discussion and not a political argument. The fact that some people took offense to or were personally effected by what was posted in that exchange, where they actually felt the need to complain to moderators, is just plain sad in my honest opinion. But to each their own.

And as I previously conceded, this isn't my forum, and if I chose to participate in it, I'll play by the rules, and I'll be content with those rules. However, the rules, especially in regards to the definitions of some terms, such as "political," are ambiguous at best and subject to interpretation, thus why I find it extremely callow for especially those who seem to like to complain or go crying to a moderator merely for the sake of complaining/crying instead of just sucking it up, taking the high/adult road, and ignoring that which they don't personally like or approve of. After all, is it really that difficult to just ignore or not respond to postings that one doesn't like? Last I checked, we all had that ability, right?

End of rant.

They are not useful posts. Ignoring them or not, they should not be present to start off with and many people find them frustrating. If you say you are fine with abiding by the rules, why are you criticizing this forums moderators and members in general?

The thing that mystifies me is we all have Deloreans. Its not like it is a car that is a dime a dozen, there are very few out there relatively speaking. And still there is issues like this where owners being hostile with one another. Out of my control but it just confuses me.

Another common problem with written online communication is the lack of background/context/intent that is often times present - especially between those who don't know each other personally. Of course, this turns into an even bigger problem when assumption allows one to read into what was said, even though there was nothing really there to begin with.

Let me be clear - I'm not criticizing or directing hostility towards any members or moderators. I'm merely stating my opinion, a purely subjective reaction to the perception of experience, concerning some of their chosen past actions. I'm probably one of the most laid back and easy to get along with people you'll ever meet because I always openly admit when I'm wrong and I rarely if ever take anything personally - and especially not crap on the internet.

I still don't understand why some people allow themselves to get so frustrated - as even if the post is completely without any value what-so-ever (remember, even humor has value, even if you don't get it), the solution is quite easy and simple - again, just ignore it.

This post highlights one of my concerns perfectly - it's openly inviting an ideological discussion, which I've been previously sanctioned for engaging in on this forum, as supposedly such are considered to be "political."

In any other thread, I'd merely ignore something like this. Others, however, choose to complain to the mods.

Sorry, didn't mean anything by the term 'rant' other than a long explanation filled with subjective determinations. I've used the term in regards to my own posts that are similarly situated, in this thread even. No offense should be taken, as none was intended. But the question posed was in regards to hatred being displayed on the new forum, as the purpose of this thread was merely announcing the existence of another forum, just as DMCHelp is acknowledged by this forum as another forum. Admin Mike purported to be addressing this question, but didn't cite a single example or quote where hatred is on full display over on the other forum - instead we received a history report that cannot be countered/defended against by the other parties involved due to their banned status on this forum.

The reason why I have not responded until right now is I have an 83 year old stroke victim mother that I am taking care of that requires more attention than DMCTalk, so you will have to excuse my absence if I do not respond to every thread and post right away. As for it being on the new forum, no, as the forum was just activated... their Yahoo page, however, has been up and running for months.

As you ask where the 'hatred' exists between the members of the new forum, hatred is a strong word... however, as you can see by reading https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/dmctoday/MhjOlZ5s0Ko , persons on that forum no longer on this forum still cannot get over things that have happened in the past. For example, dragging Sean's name into the mix. Sean hasn't been an ACTIVE member of dmctalk in over a year, and just pops in from time to time... yet all of them still actually believe he is pulling the strings of the forum.

Chad has to voice his preference to keeping a delorean forum strictly BTTF free, because of his vocal past here about how his view that because no one really shared, he decided to leave.

As for Sam's recent banning, this was because he trolled, he literally posted for us to ban him for trolling, which we did.

:dunno:

Like I said, 'hatred' is a strong word. As stated in my so called "rant", we have left their forum alone, rarely bringing up their members names on the board, because we have tried to move on. Yes, people like Bill have contributed great things like the Bus Grounding thread, but at the same time when he was having log in issues, i bent over backwards trying to get his log in fixed, to which he still said we were sabotaging his ability to log in, calling Sean out repeated for old issues, and it just wouldn't stop. I personally have nothing against Bill and wanted him back on the board, but even to this day, he's still bashing Sean for stuff that apparently happened years ago! Why keep beating the same dead horse?

And also, if you feel your thread wasn't political, contact me personally. I have said repeatedly if you feel the moderators are acting unfairly, just contact me and I will personally look into it.

When we made the no political discussions or religion threads, It was not meant as a "no mention of the word 'religion' ", or any term from politics... lets get that straight. We should all just keep that in mind, and try to keep people from making all kinds of wild assumptions without even asking the people TRULY running the forum... As you can read in their thread I posted above, they are pretty much completely wrong.

You know what they say what happens when you 'assume', no?

So, cliff's notes from all of this:

- Good luck to DMCToday with their unmoderated forum
- It would be nice if our banned members respect OUR forum and stop harassing our members
- If you feel you are being over moderated, PLEASE LET ME KNOW
- Sean is not running the board, and has not been an active member for a while. Yes, he does remain an administrator because he was instrumental in getting the forum restarted.
- I too like french toast

Just to chime in here, criticizing DMCTalk or the moderation/admin staff is not against the rules. Being a dick is against the rules.

If you have a problem with a site policy or an administrator and you can voice that concern in a reasonable way, you are more than welcome to raise the issue with us. We are DMCTalk users just like you guys, it's just that we also occasionally pop into the room with the website's levers and buttons and we monkey with those controls as necessary to make sure things run smoothly. But at the end of the day, we're not better than or "above" our users because that's what we are too.

Also, Sean typed this post for me, then held a knife to my throat and forced me to click "submit".

Lighten up, folks. Everybody has a bad day, or week, or month, or longer, and it may show up in how they type, but they may not want to share the details of their lives with you, as is their right.

Come on, it's Friday!

Because then he can truthfully say that I posted it and he did not.

He's quite clever, you see.

Every community needs at least one jerk on staff. Its all about balance my friend.

There's also a huge difference between the perception of being a jerk based on the honest (and admittedly blunt) expression of opinion versus the perception of being a jerk based on that person's intent of harassment and malice. I may come off as an asshole sometimes, and I admit that I hold some strong opinions which are occasionally expressed without much of a buffer, but unlike some people I cannot be rightfully accused of intentionally being malicious or hostile or possess any intent to harass.

I've been with my current company for 5 years, and my boss has had to pull me aside many times and tell me that while he always agrees with the things that I say I need to find a better way to say them, for the sake of professionalism. I used to tell him "fuck them" (referring to the people who complained), but I've mellowed a bit. These days I will simply tell him "screw them". Growth.

As expected, the trolling of DMCtalk members to "come on over" has begun. Who is Justlooking and why is he bothering me? Why must people think they have to choose sides? Stupid.

That's the funny thing. If people are in a burning building, they don't need an invitation to leave. But when a place is comfortable and works, only then do people need to try and be drawn away.

If DMCTalk was such a shitty site, the mere mention of a brand new forum would have people flocking over and signing up in droves.

Speaking of DMCToday and someone called "justlooking", I just happened to find these messages in my inbox:

Considering I haven't used this site's ban function in several weeks, I find this pretty hilarious. This should pretty much clarify the caliber of user you're going to have to deal with on our new "competitor" forum. :)

Side note: Being accused of doing something that I didn't actually do has never made me angry, it actually makes me laugh. I always own up to my own actions.

I just wanted to say I think the moderators here at DMCTalk are doing a fine job. I moderate a similar sized message board for another community, so I know firsthand how much work & how tough it is to keep the peace & productivity of a big message board balanced. I've been in the DeLorean community since the late '90s, and I have to say the current iteration of DMCTalk is the finest internet/email discussion group our community has yet seen. Some tough decisions have been made around here in regards to membership & content, but I honestly feel the DMCTalk moderators have gotten it right every single time this past year. I fully realize how thankless of a job a community moderator is, so I just wanted to publicly thank our mods for the service they're rendering to our community.

+1 Anarchy sucks and too many people consider free speech to be a license to be a-holes. I've met many (several in person) really good people over the years through this community and applaud the efforts to keep it civilized. If you can't tolerate some moderation, just leave! Don't go away mad, just go away!

Let's double down on our efforts of posting our real names on our signature lines and our general vicinity on our avatars. Not only does it help identify where a member is (for in person help), but it makes it far more civil than calling someone by a something as crude as say, Spittybug.

Does "free speech" really apply here? I didn't think it did.

+1 here. It drives me nuts when we meet people at shows and they introduce them selves with a real-world name that means absolutely nothing to me, and I'm supposed to recognize them. And I generally do once I hear the "handle".

I'm on another non-DMC forum where they will more or less toss you off the list (or at least 100% moderate your posts) if you don't post an introduction and then sign every post with enough of a name/location so that people recognize who you are. Obviously people can use made-up real-sounding names but generally they just don't. It goes a very long way to keep people civil.

I guess it's hard for me to comprehend the lack of a life it takes to spend your days trolling forums and coming up with multiple logins to bother forum members and moderators. It's like spending your free time designing a cellophane S to throw at people.

If you're using Tapatalk, the signature lines don't show up.

I changed my "handle" to my name. Does that count? :)
