I don’t get it. I have never understood the point of spinning the back of the car around like that. I didn’t get it in the Fast N Furious “drift” movie and I don’t get it now. I think it is kinda dumb, really. Same for burning/smoking the tires. Why? Why do it? What are you proving? Seems totally pointless to me.
If you rub two dissimilar items against each other you will create heat from friction. Actually you will get heat from two similar items too. If one of those items is round as in a wheel, and you spin it on the other surface, you will create a lot of heat. If it has rubber on it, the rubber will burn. Why is this something that you would want to do with your car???? I have never understood it, and I guess I never will.

I don't get it either.

I would be too afraid of tearing up the transmission and the car its self!

Those rear wheels look like something off a matchbox car.

I suspect the same result can be achieved by using two 30 year old spare donuts with nice hard rubber.

We don't need no stinking donuts with nice hard rubber.

Again, what is the point? It's so dumb.

Or a set of original NCTs aired up a bit high.

I agree with the "I don't get its" - tire companies go crazy trying to get tires to make good traction, car companies install traction control computers etc. Now someone goes and makes tires from hard plastic? This seems hugely backwards to me. And you are making a car that you are guaranteed to wrap around a tree on the way home.

OTOH I'll bet the tire companies LOVE this fad, a product that is good for about 100 miles!

What came to mind when I saw it was, "couldn't buddy have picked a parking lot without the light standards here and there?" Just begging to smash into one. That concrete base would eff over your stainless pretty quick. Although I think that has already been done... just can't find a link to the photos at the moment. Must be what the cool kids are doing nowadays. Or he ran out of cinnamon in his Mom's spice cupboard.

I'm no expert in drifting and I certainly don't think it's a good idea doing this in a DeLorean, but I have a suspicion something isn't quit right here. First of all, - and we gotta be honest about this - a (standard) DeLorean hasn't got enough power to do this (even with slicks) and second of all, by watching certain moves ( for example at about 1:29 and 1:48 ) the cars slides backwards after drifting. I've seen 'driftmovies' before were a frontwheeldrive car slides around with the backwheels on dinnertrays ( believe it or not ). That way the back goes out more easily ... I have a same feeling about this video, something isn't right about it.

The other thing that seemed pretty odd to me was the lack of skid marks with all that sliding. Almost as if the tires were made of fiberglass. Or ice. . . .

Seems like the "Drift Tire System" is an actual thing. Some sort of outer ring that fits over the original tire (nylon perhaps?)

That's the first thing about this thread that makes sense. It would pretty accurately simulate glare-ice driving on all 4 wheels.

And for guys wanting to play at drifting it would save tires. At the cost of hitting light poles. . .
