courtesy light weirdness

When I open the passenger door, only the door lights come on. When I open the driver door, the door lights plus dome lights come on. Is it possible I got one of the diodes reversed? If so, which one?

You are probably on the right track.

The door diodes do not control the door clearance lamps, so if the fuse is good and the door switch closes (when the door opens) then the clearance lamps on that door go on, regardless of diodes.

A diode could be reversed or just bad (open circuit in both directions).

You probably need to check the diode for the passenger side circuit. You can verify the condition by checking the Door Ajar lamp, which should be behaving the same as the courtesies are. Unless the diode for it is also backward or blown.

Didn't you just make up some custom door-light diodes? You might be suffering from "infant mortality" in one of the diodes.

That could be a problem since the courtesy light circuit has a 10 amp fuse and your diodes are probably 1 or 3 amp rated.

The factory diodes were 1 and 3 amp rated, and my replacements are 1 amp rated. All of my lights are LEDs. Could my 1-amp diodes still be a problem even with the reduced current draw of LEDs?

If you accidently shorted the dome light wire it could blow the diode before blowing the fuse. I put a 3 amp fuse in my courtesy light circuit. Don't know if my OEM diodes are 1 or 3 amp. I have a bunch of 3 amp diodes to build like you did if I blow the OEM ones.

Well, it looks like there's more to this problem than I originally thought.

Something else is wrong: when I was replacing the console, I plugged the clock in and the Hazard switch lit up. What the hell?
