Strange Noise in my car.

Hey all.

Since I received my car back from DMC Florida a few months ago and It's had a "Clicking?", noise that sounds like it's, under/over/around the dash?
Kinda like a Cable that's not receiving lubrication. Speedo has been fine. It hasn't done any Weird things).

The sound doesn't start until I hit around 45-50 MPH.

I've recorded a video and posted it to YouTube to see if anyone has had a similar problem/sound, (And what to look for and fix it).

Excuse my Shaky camera. I was heading home and I decided to use my iPhone to record the "Clicking" sound, (And trying not to Kill myself in the curves).

The noise doesn't sound like it's coming from Under the dash at all.
I had a passenger recently that heard the noise. She played with the dash, Glove compartment and all things within her reach. (Up and Down).
We Never figured it out. :confused:

Is your blower motor running when it happens? Even if not, maybe a leaf or piece of debris has worked its way into the intake.

Also take a look under the car, you may have picked up a stick or a part such as a speedo cable or part of the wiring harness has worked its way loose and the airflow is knocking it around.

Check you brake shields, maybe a small rock is bouncing around.

Most likely unrelated, looks like your oil pressure gauge or sender is malfunctioning.

Not sure about the noise.

It's working just like a factory setup should. The factory sending unit was not calibrated correctly causing the oil pressure gauge to peg whenever the engine is running( I think they used the same sending unit from the Vovlo engine causing the problem). The newer ones are correct.

Did you ever try getting in a straight away and shutting it off and coasting?
Disconnect the speedo cable before it goes into the cabin...

I never knew that. So the original sending units on the cars were all calibrated wrong up to a certain VIN?

Actually I am thinking the problem ran through the entire production run. When I said newer I meant the ones you buy from the vendors now.

Mine made the exact same sound. The PO had told me "occasionally you have to tighten the speedometer cable." I looked under near the clutch and found that the cable that runs to the bottom of the LAMBDA counter was loose and simply had to be finger tightened onto the counter. For some reason it loosens over time. Don't know for sure that it's your problem as well, just trying to help.

Take a look at your pressure sender (Next to your oil filter). If the wire attached to it is a slip on spade connector it was replaced at some point... If the wire has a ring connector that is attached with a nut on a screw it's original. My guess is you have a non-factory (newer) sender.

That is a very strange clicking noise. Try turning things on or off like the AC, radio, blower. Maybe a passenger with a stethoscope can help pin down where it's coming from.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Sorry if I miss a few people.

@ Michael; I've looked under the car. Nothing seems amiss or, Added... I've turned off Everything. Blower motor, A/C, all of it that I can and the noise is still there.

@ Ron; I Haven't tried shutting the car off while at 65MPH yet. Will try that in a bit.

@ Hokie; I've been under the dash, checked the speedo cable in and out of the Lamba counter. All tight.

@ OverlandMan; Yep, my oil gauge is still the original ring connector type. It's always pegged at crusing speed, (Or when cold), it drops down after warming up and at idle.

@mluder; I Pray that it's not my binnacle cracking! :eek: (They way it sounds, replacements will be available 1 day before the Revelation).

@ Bitsyncmaster; Yep, I've tried shutting off everything.

Funny thing, I was out today and on the same streach of road, (No, it doesn't matter where I'm at as long as I'm doing over 45), It wasn't as loud today?

Anyroad, I'm out to check out shutting the car off at speed and see what that does.
