View Full Version : Engine Common parts list for premier prv?
Is there a common parts list between the 3.0, and the D's PRV?
Looking to start my rebuild this fall, and their are several Eagle Premier PRV's available near me, I'd like to know what I can use off of them. I searched a bit in the forum, but I found lots of contradictory info (for example two threads both stating with certainty that the lower crankcase - a part I need - is and is not the same.
What components are you looking for? The fuel system and intake systems are entirely different. I beleive the angle on the heads is different so the intakes are not interchangeable. Cant say that much about the internals as I didnt dive that deep into my motor. Usually when you are rebuilding you would buy all new internals anyway. The lower crankcase is indeed different, the Delorean's engine mounts are closer to the trans. Everything bolts up though.
The eagle starter is a direct swap, lol.
I'd like to re-use my heads and intake/fuel system, the upper portions of the engine... I was hoping the lower end of the Eagle's PRV was the same. Or if someone have come up with a cross reference list, which parts the Eagle's PRV I could use. I haven't opened mine up yet, but aside from knowing the lower crankcase needs replaced, I imagine not much internally is good.
If there is very little that is interchangeable, its probably not worth my effort to pick one up.
Well you can strip down the 3.0 to the block (upper crankcase) And leave in the pistons, connecting rods, liners, crank, etc. Then basically sandwich it with the delorean parts. Lower crankcase and oil pan, and heads and intake. This will all bolt up.
I also have a complete workshop manual for the premier, let me know if you need anything.

I am just starting the research process on this, so I might be way off on things. I've dug through lots of threads on the forum, but feel free to point out how wrong I am.

Also:
- The 3.0 is an even fire and the 2.8 is odd
- Not all 3.0 engines are alike. Later models are distributerless

If he is using 2.8 heads the intake incompatibility is not an issue.
That is correct, 1988 to 1990.5 have a distributor. Also the fuel injectors were changed to pick up some extra HP. But once again, if he is using the 2.8 heads this is not an issue.
My engine has a distributor. I am converting to distributorless MS. Involves using some hardware from the 2.8 heads I have sitting around, blocking off the hole in the timing cover (Al plate) and a coilpack and EDIS-6 with the MS unit.

The water pump/plumbing is different on the 3.0. How compatible is that to the 2.8?
Also ... the 3.0 valve cover does not take the 2.8 AC bracket and the 2.8 valve cover interferes with the valves on the 3.0 (as I understand it from other posts here at DMCTalk.org. check to see if it can be ground a bit to eliminate the interference)

How much machining is required? Is it a few thousands or is there significant material removal?

A good amount of the inner structural ribs above the rockers must be removed.
