I am ready to replace my headliner in my doors. The rest of the headliner is in perfect condition, but the doors appear to have been poorly done in the past with it being loose in some areas.
I removed my headliner pieces and took it to Joann's to be able to color match. I found the headliner material and they have three colors: black, gray, and tan. The gray looks so dark to me. It's entirely possible that my headliner has faded and/or changed colors over the years or that the PO replaced the headliner with a color that was off to begin with. My current headliner is just so much lighter than the one at Joann's.
Check out the pictures of the old headliner and the gray color at Joann's:

It doesn't look that different in the pictures, probably due to the florescent lighting, but in person, the difference is pretty big. Is this the color of headliner that you recommend and have used, or should I get it elsewhere? Maybe I'm just being too picky.

Surely someone has dealt with this before...

If you want the right color you need to find an upholstery shop who has the sample books. You see three at JoAnns, there are a couple hundred more to pick from in the professional stuff.

Excellent insight. Do you have a favorite brand or color that you have used? If possible, I'd love to be able to go into an upholstery shop and say I want headliner made by ________ in the color called _________. Hopefully I'm not being too greedy :)

I'll be the first to acknowledge the "Airplane" quote by Lesley Nielsen.

I bought from them, I ordered a few color samples paid about $6, but they refund you some of the cost when you purchase from them. I got the suede headliner material, 2 yrds and came to a total of around $50. also need around 2 cans of the 3M headliner spray.

Found this place online ...near syracuse. They'll probably have a sample book to look through and can order you what you need.

I wish it were close to Syracuse, UT and not just NY :)

Unfortunately, no. This is a case where I gave a good sample to the guy who does it for us and he provides it, installed.

Dang. Thanks anyway, Dave.
BTW, I had the pleasure of working with your wife in getting only my 2nd parts order from DMCMW. She must have been on vacation a couple of weeks ago when I ordered from you for the first time. Up until this point, I had ordered exclusively from DMCH's website. It's been a great experience with you guys at DMCMW so far. Kudos to you and your wife.

hahaha.. damn it. I deleted my post 2 seconds after I hit submit and realized you were in UT not NY. You must have clicked on it right as I was posting. I never had time to go back and search near your actual area to help find an upholstery shop.

I'm looking for light grey headliner material like I had in 10372:

Searching the forum; I find a few different links to suppliers, some with a reference to medium grey, but not finding any reference to light grey.

I found mine at Jo-Ann's Fabric. Interestingly they didn't have much left on the roll so I went to all 3 stores in my area and bought the remaining rolls which were all "grey" but when I compared them to each other back at home they were all slightly different "shades of grey".
So my roof section is slightly different than my door sections but it still looks cool I think. Way better than the saggy crap that was hanging there before!
