View Full Version : Heat & A/C O-ring size for AC Compressor?

I'm doing an orifice tube & accumulator change up front & found out I should drain & refill the compressor while doing that. My parts order is already on it's way, so don't have compressor hose o-rings. Anyone know what size they are? Also what material?

This is for a stock SD-510 compressor running R12.

Most auto parts stores sell an assortment for GM cars that should have the sizes you need. Green are most always used now with R134 but think they are also fine with R12 but you should check that.

My hoses had enough flex in them to where I could turn the compressor upside down without undoing the hoses at the back. I'd try that first if I were you. Just my 2¢.

Thanks Dave, that's what I was hoping for: simple to find locally with the correct size, just not sure if the size is common before I tear it apart.


My hoses had enough flex in them to where I could turn the compressor upside down without undoing the hoses at the back. I'd try that first if I were you. Just my 2¢.

That's exactly what I was going to try first, but wasn't sure if I'd have enough slack/flex to do so. Easier to work on a workbench, but this definitely has it merits for not disassembling & just doing a quick 'oil change'.

If you change out the compressor, you should drain and measure the amount of oil in it and replace that amount with new oil. There is no need to disturb the compressor if you are only changing out the OT and Accumulator. But you do have to replace oil retained in the Accumulator (Typically 2 oz. See Sanden Manual (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?353-Sanden-SD-AC-Compressor-Service-Manual)).
