Hi all -

I recently purchased 2410 and the car is currently at PJ Grady's getting some work done prior to coming home. I will probably end up having a lot of random questions for the forum over time. I'm sure this has been asked before, but what was the last VIN to have a gas flap hood?

I checked 2408, 2409, 2411 and 2412 on txdmc.org and all have gas flaps. 2410 is listed as not having one and my gas tank does not have a lock. Should 2410 have a gas flap hood? Anyone have a lower VIN without one?

The concourse manual says that gas-flap hoods were used up to 03200

I would assume that yours was changed at some point, particularly as its sisters all have them.

Just a reminder; the txdmc.org site is attempting to keep up with last known, or last reported information. The gas-flap and other particular information reported may not be how the car was configured from the factory. It's better to rely on the concourse manual for original configuration. The hood on VIN 2410 may have been swapped out before you purchased it.

Did all gas flap hoods come with locking tanks?

Did all gas flap hoods come with locking tanks?

To my knowledge, yes. Unless a car was a weird anomaly but I haven't heard of anything along those lines.

That is interesting because mine has no lock and as far as I know the prior owner never changed the hood.

Go to www.deloreanpogs.com and see if there is anything on your car. Perhaps your hood was changed at a QAC.

Did all gas flap hoods come with locking tanks?

And conversely if you have a locking tank, did it originally have a gas flap hood?

VIN 814 has a locking tank but flat hood. I suspect its been changed at some point...

Just sayin...

I am pretty sure 3200 is the correct cutoff for the gas flap hoods. I knew the previous owner of 3202, which was a concours-winning car with under 900 miles, and that car had the lined hood with no flap.

It appears they kept using the locking gas caps on the cars after the gas flap hoods were discontinued. My guess is they simply had an excess of the locking gas caps on hand, and needed to deplete those before ordering non-locking ones.

When I got my car it had a locking gas cap. I replaced it with non locking gas cap. Still have the locking cap in my glove compartment. My car also still has the gas flap hood.
