As I was prepping my lower engine cover for paint, one of the holes in the cover where the bolt goes through broke off:

Should I attempt a repair of the fiberglass, or should I just drill new holes and mount it in a slightly different place?

Repair the fiberglass, or have it done for you, then re-drill the hole. I've used a combination of screws AND epoxy along the length of the latch to reduce stress.

I agree. If you try to move the holes the cover either will be too high or too low when open. if you have to, you can "glass" in a thin piece of metal and then drill that.

In my case, both holes were broken. So I used this instead of trying to repair. You can either drill additional holes or just kind of clamp it in place. Been working great for over 9 years now.
