I thought I would try this and see if anyone had interest. I'm a trading guy even though I work in technology as my day job. By trading I mean securities such as stocks, options, futures, bonds, ETFs, mutual funds, CDs, Money Markets, etc.

I'd like to share ideas and see what's working for some out there both long and short term, as well as what's not working out so well. In no way should anyone take this as the gospel. Read any disclaimer on brokerage and fund sites and you'll see the "trading involves risk, you should consult a professional adviser if you're unsure of what to do" stuff. Bottom line: There are no guarantees.

With all that said, I'll start off and say that I bought some ultra short ETFs today (Symbol = DUG). Been reading some reports out there that the oil side shows to be in global surplus and experts are predicting $50/barrel crude by fall. I think that's a little aggressive but I could see it hitting $80-85 fairly easily.

I'm currently long on CLCT as of a week or two ago. Bought in @ $14.80. Got a limit order set to fill @ $17.00. Sitting @ $16.51 currently. Even if I get stuck in this one, it pays a nice dividend (div/yield = 8.4%). This could be a nice quick winner. Hell it is already if I wasn't so greedy... :)

My stepchild that I've been stuck in for a while now is WIN. Bought in way back in late 2011 at $12ish and the damn thing has tanked. Currently trading @ around $8.50. Again, it pays a dividend but its been a real disappointment overall. Hopefully I'll get out of it in the next 12 months.

Got some other stuff in the cooker but I'll stop there and see what you guys are doing.

I may be a bit late on this (if only I had a time machine), but my advice for DMCL: SELL SELL SELL!!!

I should have seen this one coming

And as far as DMCL went, remember... they were ramping up production in Oct so they could take the company public. It never made an IPO, so I'd recommend a different strategy. :)

Yeah yeah yeah, pffft :D I was about to ask the serious question about DMCL going public, but I decided to go the silly route instead. Heh heh.

My current list of investments are NBL (I work for them), VSTM, NWBO and ELS. Just what I dabble in as the rest is in my 401k and in various mutuals funds there.

I can't comment on NBL. NWBO, VSTM have both been moving some lately but these are BioTech plays so a lot swings on the confidence you have they will get the approval and funding. Both are for cancer treatment so it's something I want to support as well. As for the ELS, that was just a recent pick up and we'll see where it goes.

I spread my activity across a handful of different accounts. (Traditional Brokerage Accts, IRAs, Roth IRAs, 401ks)

I pulled up a 10yr chart on your company NBO. Nice long term growth there and a decent dividend. VSTM has Stong-buy and Buy ratings and it looks as if you would have nailed it if you were in it prior to June. And like you said, supporting cancer treatment is always a bonus.

I'll have to add those to my watch list. Check out TXN (Texas Instruments) too. I got in last summer @ 26 or 27 and it's nearly $40 now. Probably fixing to cash some of that out soon.

All the info you see on stocks and bonds (MSN money, etc) is always biased to just drive a stock higher or lower so someone can make money. It rarely is printed for any other reason. My only investments are in 401Ks but I did see the recession coming and moved to bonds at a good time. Now bonds are not doing good but I don't want to buy into stocks since everything is so overpriced. I keep saying another crash is coming but it looks like there is no end to the stock markets.

That's why you want to diversify. One of my good friends has been trading options chains for the past 4 years as a full time job. He's become pretty solid at doing so seeing as he can make a decent living without doing anything else. Most of the media out there that he uses to make decisions and strategies comes from subscription-based services where you actually pay for it or you pay for an account that provides said service. I'm not saying this is the gospel, but it seems to work for him. He's been using the TD Ameritrade Think or Swim platform.

Eventually another crash will come and if you hang on to your bonds, provided they don't mature, you'll be able to cash out again at a premium. It's all about how much time you have to wait and can you hang on for the ride without panicking. Ebbs and flows.
