View Full Version : General Replacing Brake/Fuel Hard lines
So as some of you know I am in the middle of a frame off restoration. Since the frame is stripped down, I figured I would replace the hard lines. The brake lines are a given, they are corroded and the fittings are in very poor shape. However the fuel lines appear to be very nice and clean and free of corrosion. Should I still replace them as well?
Also besides corrosion resistance, is there a benefit to SS lines over the NOS lines?
Thanks!

Unless you have money to burn, I would not replace non-corroded hard lines. You probably are keeping your car indoors now so a stock hard line should last forever. You may want to be sure the lines can not rub on the frame from vibration. Slip some tubing over them or bond them in those areas.

The benefit is NEW lines over 30 year OLD lines.
For obvious safety reasons, I myself would prefer the new stainless steel lines over NOS (also 30 year old) lines.
Yeah for the brake lines I think I am going to either make them myself with SS or buy some from DPI if i am feeling lazy. I am just not sure about the fuel lines.

What goes for the brake lines, also applies to the fuel lines.
That's the same 30 year old stuff.
Want to run a risk: (line rupture while driving most often result in fire.) keep using 30 year old stuff or buy 30 year old NOS stuff for brake and fuel systems.
