Has anyone had any experience sending their original, cracked, browning dash to Just Dashes? How about their binnacle?

I'm curious to know how close they can match OEM look/texture and how the price compares to a DMCH plastic replacement.

A few years back I tried Leatherique's crack filler and then re-dyed it. The dye has held up great but the cracks just came back. Since the cracked filler was white I now have big white cracks as opposed to black or dark ones.

I sent them pictures of my dash and binnacle earlier this year, and was advised they can do it (with about an eight week lead time at that time) but it would have come close to $3000 by the time it was all done (stripping the dash down to the framework, rebuilding it with modern dashboard material, and colour matching) That did not include shipping.

I'm on my new computer, but am sure I still have the email on my old computer. I'll check it out when I get home.

I was going to guess $800 - $1000 but $3000 (american im guessing?) is out of my budget.

Fair enough. Their procedures are definitely labour intensive

I had to dig around to find my correspondence with them, but my recollection was well off. To the point of almost double. Clearly I was thinking of something else, and misrepresented what they told me.

Here's what I sent originally:

"At this point, I am seeing what my options are. Your work speaks for itself, so I must consider what you have to offer. My timeline is
within this year provided all variables align.

My car has the grey factory interior.

Are the dashes restored to an "as new" state? I am asking because there are speaker holes at both ends of the dash, and would prefer to keep them, if possible (I do not want to relocate my speakers).

Also, the binnacle in a DeLorean is a separate piece. Can that be refinished as well? I have one crack in my otherwise pristine piece.

The current state of my dash and binnacle can be seen in the included
pictures.

Once scheduled, what is the turnaround time for refurbishment
(understanding shipping is out of your control while in transit)?

For a '81 Delorean, we do a complete restoration. You will need to send the parts into us and we will do a complete reconstruction off
your original parts. We work off your original part to ensure that when you go to put it back in car you know it's going to fit. Our
current turnaround time is 8 weeks from the time we receive your part.

So the dash piece itself does fall within your budget, even with colour matching and even speaker holes.

Lead time and price is subject to change, I'm sure, but that is what I received. I thought it right to correct my inaccurate information.

This is more inline with what I was thinking. Years ago I had them redo a dash on a classic that I also own, and when it came back it looked amazing. At the time it ran 600 dollars. Original condition of dash didn't matter to them, they completely strip it and re vacuum form everything, and the grain was correct as well. Fwiw, the dash still looks new several years later....

Yea, it's hard to tell from the pics I have on my machine, but ill post them up. This is a first gen celica, and IF you can find a uncracked dash pad, they fetch well over 1000 dollars now. This one had been punched by some prick my dad loaned the car to (in the early 80's) and the dash cracked badly. If you look at the close up of the temp gauge, you can make out the pebble grain they recreated. If you need close dedicated pics pm me and I'll send them. Again, these are just what I have on my machine.....

I don't think those prices are out of line at all, considering they are reconstructing an oddball Delorean dash from a bare frame.

By contrast, a mass-produced, out of the box Plymouth Cuda or Dodge Challenger dash pad is almost $1000 from most classic Mopar vendors.

And if they can recast a binnacle for $500, I'd say that's a win as well. Look at what NOS Binnacles go for...

I also had them do some work for me (not for a Delorean) and it was excellent but expensive. Did it because the parts I needed were also NLA. The problem with having them do the binnacle is once you put the new one in the dash the rest of the car will look shabby so you will want to do everything. You might be able to get by with just spraying dye to freshen it up. The problem with that is you may not get a good match and have to also do the brand new binnacle!

That looks damn good. But as others have pointed out, it's a slippery slope... once you do the dash/binnacle, the rest of the interior will look like trash in comparison.
