Fuel Tank closing plate DWG/DXF

Im looking to get a new closing plate cut out as years of brake fluid sitting on mine seemed to create a nice big rust hole. I would repair mine but I feel the amount of welding required is just too much effort.

So I am going to get one lasercut. Before I start measuring mine I figured I would ask here to see if anyone has a drawing that they would like to share to save me some time.

I know I am going to lose the stamped features, the front will be modified to ensure proper drainage.

At one point I considered measuring up a fuel tank closing plate to have a few laser cut but ultimately decided just to fix up my old one. It sounds like yours is not fixable but you could always find a good used one as an alternative.

If you're really wanting to fabricate your own keep in mind that you'll need to put two bends in the front flange of the plate so it mounts on top of the front crossmember and not below it. You'll also need to weld nuts on the back for the front mounting holes or install rivnuts. These aren't necessarily difficult things to do, but it makes fabricating your own a little more complicated than having someone burn one off from a DXF file.

$295. I mostly have it for shop use (I get it from DMC Europe). I don't know how competitive that is with just ordering from Ed, but it's the same unit.

He lists it for 182 Euro, so it still may be cheaper from him after shipping it around the planet. . . . shipping it here was kind of a bear.

Good luck with that "find a good used one" thing - typically they stay with a good frame, or they are as rusty as a bad frame.

The thing about buying one is the shipping (Dave I assume you share the same issues). I also have a decent relationship with a local lasercutting company so I can get it cut out very inexpensively.

I did note the jogged bend at the front. Since I will be making it from something other than steel, I do not have the capabilities to weld on the nuts. However I have a metric rivnut gun and rivnuts I recently purchased to replace body fasteners.

Mine isnt too bad. The whole center section would need to be cut out and replaced. Then it needs to get galvanized. Or i can spend my labor in front of a computer and get it cut from a material that will never rust.

Everyone West of the Mississippi bitches about it too. You can wrap four k into moving a car enclosed to and from CA properly to DPI.... If it wasn't for the ridiculous costs associated with that in general things would be very different in the Delorean world.

Several times I've been laying on the floor of the garage, covered in blood and sweat and whatever the dripping/oozing/spewing fluid-du-jour was and thought how nice it would be to make a phone call, watch the car go on a truck and then have it come back better than ever.

Fortunately for my own education and sense of accomplishment (but at the cost of my sanity and quite a few do-over jobs) I am one of those people who looked at the transportation costs and thought "mmmmmmmmNAH"

Fuild-du-jour... hahaha. Been there! I have found this car to not frustrate me as much as others I have worked on. I just get stressed when focusing on the project as a whole, so much to do and lots of money to spend.

It would be nice for everything to get fixed by an external source, but much like yourself I love working on things myself. Short of K-Jet (which I have happily removed) I have addressed every piece of this car.

Sounds like you actually *have* addressed it, then!

Personally I like the K-Jet now that I understand it. It's not as modern or efficient as EFI but it's a wicked cool piece of period mechanical engineering. :)

OT, I know. Yes, stainless closing plate. Nice to have for sure. I wonder; how different does it look to the epoxy frame? Does it look weird installed? Not that anyone will see it.

Hmm I thought theirs was stamped. I can have that made up for much less that what they are asking. The only downside is rivnuts instead of welded nuts.

Hey Josh,

I replaced my FTCP soon after getting my car as it was in terrible shape. I bought a replacement SS one from Shannon in Texas. I think he had 6-7 made up at the time (5 or so years ago?).

I just wanted to note that it did not have the special contours or grooves to allow water out and I have not had any issues with it. When I installed mine, I put one reasonably thick washer between the FTCP and the frame on the main two sides (7 bolts per side) to give it a gap for water to come out.

It might not be the standard shape or solution, but it has not caused any issues. Just wanted to mention it as another option depending on your options for finding one or getting one made up.

I think I will add some drain holes just as a precaution. But it will look very similar to yours.
