I was just wondering what you guys though of the calipers for the DeLorean on rock auto? i remember someone talking about it on dmctalk.com but couldnt find it here. are they more reliable that the original DeLorean calipers? less reliable? would you reccomend purchasing them?

These are brakes for the Mercury Capri - IIRC they should bolt on, but they may have a different piston size which would have a notable effect on braking and handling while braking. It seems pretty likely that someone has purchased these before - I doubt they figured out the cross reference by themselves, - it seems more likely to me that a D owner purchased them from Rock auto and informed them that they were a cross reference.

Someone might do a little math here, comparing stock Delorean braking force distribution (front vs rear) with full aftermarket options (capri fronts, jaguar rears and a saab master)

Under no circumstances should you send your units in for the core fee - Delorean brakes are different, if only the casting details. At the very least sell them on Ebay or to a Vendor

The front brakes cross reference with a 77 Mercuri Capri. The pistons are the same size but people say the Girlings are built better.

If you have the money you can get really good rebuilt ones from Hervey. I chose the cheaper option.

I bought Mercuri Capri calipers from ebay for about $40 or $50 for the pair (including shipping). For me it was a no brainer since I got them so cheap but people still gave me hell telling me they aren't as good as the Girling calipers.

The way I see it, a new/rebuilt part vs a 30 year old caliper that has never been rebuilt is going to be safer. Eventually I might rebuild my calipers but for now what I have is working fine.

On the rear I put Jaguar calipers. If memory serves me correctly it is from an 88 or 89Jaguar. These calipers do have smaller pistons. I believe I paid about $110 for the pair from Rockauto (shipped).

I also turned the rear rotors and replaced the front rotors with rotors from DMCMW. My brakes work better than ever before. I haven't ran into anyone and the brakes are very responsive.

i wouldnt dare send the D calipers in for a core. im just contemplating making the purchase as opposed to rebuilding my calipers.... im not sure yet what i wanna do yet. its one of the things i have to work on for my project D. but im doing other things before i jump to the brakes

Here is a strategy, be prepared to do both. Get the Rock Auto ones and try them, if your not happy get Herveys rebuild kit, rebuild them then swap all the hardware over from the rockauto ones and send them back as cores. You'll be out $50 but will have had no down time while rebuilding. Strikes me as the best option...

I went the cheapest route and was satisfied. The only thing I regret is the short warranty. I think my eBay calipers only came with a 90 day warranty. But for what I paid I couldn't pass it up.

What I really wanted to do was order calipers from Autozone. For $106 (including core charge of $44) you can get both calipers from Autozone with a lifetime warranty. I like parts that come with a lifetime warranty.

I originally ordered my calipers from Autozone but they didn't cosmetically match and one had a torn seal. I tried to get Autozone to replace them but they were on backorder and I got impatient asked for a refund instead. It would have taken them weeks to get another set so I went ahead and ordered the cheap ones on ebay. I was very satisfied with the eBay calipers and they were much better quality than the set Autozone had shipped me. Autozone sells good stuff but in this case a mistake was made and I just didn't want to wait weeks for them to correct it.
