Stray Ground Wire

Can anyone tell me about this stray ground wire in the engine bay? (I hope this pic attached!)

The only (stock) ring terminal I can think of in that area should be bolted under the vacuum advance solenoid. I don't remember 100% what it leads to electrically - I think the resistor block?

Could be one that goes on the intake manifold - high on the drivers side, all the way toward the front of the car.

Agree. On ours there are two ground lugs/wires secured there with an Allen-head cap screw/washer right on top of the left intake plenum, forward, as you say. One of the lugs gathers in 3-4 ground wires coming in from the left and the other lug has a solo wire similar to the one in the the posted photo.

That would be for the the Lambda ECU (reference for the O2 sensor). Not sure it would reach where his is (but it is a single IIRC).

This lonely little stray is on the left hand side or the engine and is zip tied to a hose. I'm trying to find it a home.

Remove the strap tie and bolt the wire to the top of the intake manifold runner on the left side with all of the other black ground wires. It connects the metal bracket on the firewall and all of the ground wires to the motor for grounding purposes. Weird things happen when you do not have good, continuous grounds.

This wire did not fit the bolt on the intake. I took the bolt off, cleaned the connectors on both wires already there (a bundle and a single), I bored out the orphan, polished off the rust on the bolt, polished the area on the intake and screwed the bolt back in.

All I can say about that wire is that it is zip tied to one of the AC hoses. I hope it's in the right place.

Well, the good thing on this car is that ALL solid black wires are grounds. You should be good regardless.

With all the uncertainty in these responses, it would be a really good idea to find out where the other end of the wire is going. That might give clues as to whether it's original or something a previous owner put in (& if it REALLY is a ground), & what system it works with.

Previous owners don't always use the proper colored wires for their purposes (although this probably is a ground wire being a ring terminal).
