I am planning on joining the body back to the frame soon. However the car is backed into my garage so needs to be spun around to roll the chassis with the engine installed under. So I will be making a dolly to execute this action. My question is, how much does the body weigh? The body has a full interior and all body panels installed.

Doing a little more research, with my intake and waterpump off the engine will barely poke above the frame. So I wont bother spinning it around. Still interested in the weight!

A bare underbody is supposed to be 450. As you know the doors are 90 or so each.the interior is pretty significant too. In your case id weigh the chassis and drivetrain and subtract that from 2800.

I would love to weigh things but all I have is a 50lb fish scale and a bathroom scale. However if something moves I use the truck weight scale outside of town, lol. So short of loading up the chassis and driving 20kms I dont really have the means to weigh it! Those two figures you provided me are very helpful though. I was guessing about 1000lbs, but 1800 for the chassis is alot. I do suppose the frame is 250, the engine is 330, the tires are roughly 40-50 each, and the trans is not light... It adds up.

yeah i'd love to know where it all adds up to, I really wish our cars could shed atleast 200lbs.

Speaking of bath room scales, when I was 16 I weighed my first car in the garage ( a vw Karmann Ghia) with a 350 lb max bathroom scale. The dial went around like 2.5 times for the back tires. I just weighed each corner individually and added up the weights and came up with 1920 lbs. Years later I was able to put it on a real set of scales for corner balancing race cars, my bathroom scale hack was only like 20lbs off!

My parents never did find out how the scale got a big dent in it....

The frame is 220lbs and the transmission is around 90 I think.

Haha! awesome story. I have thought about that but didnt think it would work. But since it may, I will pick up a cheapo scale and weigh my chassis (shooting to have it ready for the body to drop on in a week). I will report back.

I think we should start a sticky or just a thread with the weights of every part of our cars, It would be nice to add or subtract things and see what the car would weight without certain parts.

Mostly it would be nice for a quick shipping weight reference.

I agree that would be very helpful. Anything in specific I should try and weigh?

From this thread:

Underbody: 450lbs
Doors: 90lbs
Engine:330lbs
Transmission: 90lbs
Frame: 220 - 250lbs

I like the idea of a list of weights for every part of the car. I was doing small parts I've replaced like the starter, radiator, bolts and brackets.

They weigh airplanes using three point weighting but I'm impressed your bathroom scale came out so accurately.
