Hi everyone
My fuel distributor was not working and I sent it to rebuilt it. Twice they got it wrong. After I talked to some Bosch specialist, and he was telling me that is not possible to rebuild them, only so-so.
What is the truth?
Who should I believe?

More specifically, someone who works for or is contracted by DMC Europe got it wrong. That person either should stop or practice more (maybe on their own distributor?)

Not that you're about to tackle it yourself, but there's a pretty good how-to that was put together by the Porsche 928 crowd (http://www.porsche928forums.com/download/manuals/CISRebuild.pdf). It's an eight-cylinder example, but everything else is relatable to our cars. It's trickly, and things need to cure for the appropriate time, but shouldn't be impossible.

Talk with Ed and see if you can find a reasonable solution. There has to be somebody out there who can do it, especially in Europe.

The biggest problem with trying to do it yourself is sourcing the inner plate/diaphragm, which is often times what fails.

A company called 'American Precision Machinery' offers rebuild kits for several of the CIS/Jetronic fuel distributors, but I've never seen one offered specifically for the distributor used on the DeLorean.

Perhaps it would be worth the effort to try to contact American Precision Machinery about making a rebuild kit for our FD's. They are located in San Francisco, CA, USA, and can be contacted via email through their eBay page.

This guy is in New Zealand and has a great site for parts and instruction. It's not a hard job to do!

I'm curious as to what was wrong with it originally and after they "fixed" it...?

FWIW- On the old .com, the consensus among those who tried it and the vendors was that leaks were the main problem, with a very low success rate overall. AFAIK they all still send them off...

Many times I have seen people send parts out for repair or replacement, get them back and claim they are no good. In many cases it turns out there was nothing wrong with the part in the first place and all of the repaired or new ones are OK too. The problem turns out either you didn't test the part properly OR something else is wrong/bad. I don't know what is going on in this particular case but when you have all of these bad parts it is hard to believe they are ALL bad. Usually whoever rebuilds/repairs a part has some way to test it to make sure it is OK before sending it back to the customer. Getting back to the beginning, why did you think the fuel distributor is bad?

I just wanted to link that company to this thread. Myself and plenty of others over here have sent K-jet bits to KMI for refurbishing. They always come back perfect.

I was trying to order a 6cyl with adjustable ports FD kit. My antivirus blocked it. I submitted the site to them to double check and they flagged it too...

We have two fuel distributors removed from PRV engines when converted to Mustang carburetors; each available for $200 each.

Looks like problem is solved. I went there and I got one which is working for sure...

Next week I will try it on the engine. I hope it will work, and I can start my car after 3 years of rebuilding..

FYI I had mine rebuilt in 2008 by Ed at DMC Europe, he did a great job. Its been flawless for more than 5 years.

SWEET - that wasn't on eBay when I did my search. If my professionally rebuilt FD gives me any problems in the future, I'll definitely be trying one of these kits :thumbup:

We have been manufacturing our own rebuild kits for a while now. I became tired of dealing with questionable rebuilds and decided to take the problem out of the loop. The required O rings are the easy part if you know the proper sizes but the metal gasket is where it gets tricky. It took a few tries to get the fabrication process down as heat distorts the thin material during cutting. I have been very hesitant to sell a "kit" because it is easy to botch a rebuild. Not to mention flowing and testing is required prior to reassembly on the vehicle. Checking your bases and really doing a bang up job takes about 3.5 hours per distributor.

I will put a few kits together and sell outright for owners wanting to give this a try. This is a "your own your own" kinda thing as offering rebuilding tech support negates the purpose of selling it outright. If you don't know how to or can't do it yourself you should be sending it in.

Thanks and good to know - I'll keep you mind in the future in case I ever need to monkey with my FD again! And yes, I'm someone who actually understands "at your own discretion/risk" and "you're on your own."

The amount of time it would take to explain and work through it would equal out to just doing it....
