Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you left the outer sleeve of the bushing inside the lower control arm. You still need to press out (or cut out) the outer sleeve in order to install a new bushing.

These photos show the rear links but the bushings and removal/install procedure are identical for the LCA. The whole bushing needs to come out and is actually easier to remove with the rubber and inner tube intact. A 27mm Socket should fit inside the arm/link and allow you to press the old bushing out. You will need a hydraulic press to remove and install the bushings.

What he said. You will now need to cut or collapse the old sleeve to get it out (you are about to find that the new one will appear not to fit). What you are doing is way too much work, you should just press out the old sleeve.

You cannot just replace the rubber part, it is bonded to the steel and must stay that way.

The DMCH catalog online does not have that separate on sale. However, Tony @ DMCFL, sold me the D with one bare arm (no bushing installed). Can you help me find a pair for both sides?

Most Auto parts stores have a press, and also Alignment places, I paid a place to just do the bushings in the arms, and took the arms home and installed... Seems better to do right...

For the upper control arms you have to replace the complete arm, you cannot buy just the bushings. You buy the whole upper arm and it comes with bushings already installed. From the pics you posted your upper control arms are rusty anyway, just replace the whole arm on each side.

For the lower control arms use the same bushings as the rear suspension links.

You need to remove the old bushings with a press. In your case now that you've melted out the inner part of the bushing it's going to be more difficult to get the outer sleeve of the bushing removed. Be very careful not to damage the lower control arm while removing the bushing sleeve because the lower control arms are no longer available. At this point you may want to take the arms to a shop and have them do it.

I think those bushings are listed on the Hervey site, link (http://www.specialtauto.com/delorean-parts/images/upper-a-arm-bushing.jpg) to picture on the SpecialtAuto.com site.

Now here is something interesting. Look at page 6 in this old Delorean Owners Association (http://www.dmcnews.com/faq/img/news/news15.pdf)newsletter. It has a diagram of the parts making up the Front Suspension. Clearly shown is part #54 which are the bushings you are looking for (Obi-Wan, far far away & a long time ago).

Now if you look at the 'same' picture on the DMCH site (https://store.delorean.com/c-296-5-1-0-front-suspension.aspx), you'll see that the bushings have been removed, both from the picture and from the listing.

I was just asking Dave at DMCMW how it is that DMCFL has given be a BLANK control arm without bushings. I am hoping there is a source for those.

I think the direction of this conversation is that you should not put new bushings in those old rusty control arms as they look pretty bad...and possibly dangerously weak. you should invest in a new set.

Thanx for the tip. Yes they look bad but I assure you the metal is still quite sturdy. The rust has just chipped off the paint on them. I checked them for weaknesses;)

It is difficult but no impossible to install the bushings in the upper arms without bending them. We don't sell them separately anyway.

If you do buy them separately don't just try to press them in, you'll just bend up the arms.

No... I was being excited... It is a pain in the ass to do the press in, and at $5 each it is a deal... the time it takes to do right, can you do 10 an hour...you would have to do 24 an hour to get $120 an hour... I really doubt that is possible... I say Deal

I am gettinng a few bushings in poly. but I would rather have all arms in rubber. As I am going with hard shocks and springs, I want some of the vibrations to be cushioned by the rubber bushings.

Just the sway bar and radius arms are getting full poly.
