Remember the B-J car a few years ago that went for $55k?

Supposedly this is it, now for sale with 1500 more miles on the clock.

The "Limited Edition" emblem on the back is good for a chuckle.

All those ebay pictures and none of the interior.

There are plenty there. You just have to scroll down the inner "window" to get to them.

Any thoughts as to what this may be?

Looks like a hood scoop.

Those are nice detailed photos...shows that both doors have alignment issues. I take it the "odd" placement of the DeLorean nameplate was also an add on ala "limited edition"?

That hood scoop is needed to support the new high performace ash tray upgrade.

Based on this comment, I doubt that anybody on this forum has paid what I did for my car.?.?

I bought my D from DMC Florida and, (I hate to admit it but), I paid $54,900 for it with a 1 year warranty. Here's a link to my cars sales page (http://delorean.com/delorean/6599/)
I had upgrades added that boosted that price up a bit more before I picked it up.

My research here said that DMC Florida usually has the Best used DeLoreans for sale. That may be true but, I've found that they have the Worst service after the sale.

What I'm Ranting about is, Some of us, *Over Pay* so that we can finally, Live the Dream. (Whether it's a Unicorn or a Full restoration).
Even if we get Screwed in the process... :eek7:

I Love my car and don't regret Any, (well some), of the $$$ that I paid for it.

As long as you're happy, that's all that matters! The value of collector cars in general, especially the oddball stuff, is very subjective.

While I do all my own service/repairs, DMC-Midwest has been a fantastic parts vendor for me and Dave and Julee are definitely second to none!

Barrett-Jackson sucks, although they do seem to bring the big/high bidders.

Personally, I prefer watching the Mecum auctions on Velocity over B-J on Speed.

I honestly didn't post this thread to ridicule the BJ buyer for paying $50k (or anyone else for that matter) or to gloat if he takes a bath with this sale. (I recall Dave S's words that we can be a little too scathing in our assessments sometimes) Honestly it is in all our interests that more cars change hands for that sort of money.

It was a noteable car when it sold. Everyone was talking about it (and the other one that sold in the 40s at the same time) including many other ebay sellers since. I can't say that the current seller is the BJ buyer or that it is in the same condition. Perhaps the BJ buyer had some sentimental attachment to this specific car.

I dare say that George's car is in better shape though but as I haven't seen either up close that's just an opinion.

Having said that it will be interesting to see what the market values this car at and then by extension what the BJ factor was.

Agreed, Mecum is a much better auction IMO.

Nice link. I hadn't seen that. Odd how the announcers are praising all sorts of things about the car... yet if their livelihood wasn't depending on it, i.e. the auction prices going up, they'd likely be doing the bad mouthing that virtually every other car review guy does out there on our cars.

What's that advice... "be cautious of taking advice from someone who profits by you taking their advice."

Isn't "brillo" pad another name for a steel wool type pad, i.e. not a good idea to use on our cars??

In the UK a Brillo pad was/is a brand name for a steel wool pad impregnated with soap for cleaning pots and pans. Not sure if it is still sold.

So yes, not a recommended cleaning method.

Always and still bothers me that most everyone thinks that B J is the end-all, be-all of car auctions. Seems to me that from some of the footage I have seen over the years that most people who bid/buy are not really that knowledgeable and just need an outlet for their millions! Barrett Jackson seems to think that they "set the price" when it comes to collector cars, without really understanding true values of most of the cars they sell.

I totally agree. It's just a very successfully and well-marketed event. There are far more serious "collector car auctions" in the world that, I think, make Barrett-Jackson look a little plebeian comparatively, as far as the caliber of the cars being auctioned and the level of international world-class bidders that partake in such events.
With regards to the DeLorean, I only wish that Barrett-Jackson set the trend for classic car values! Mine would probably be worth a good $60k!

What is the purpose of that stupid hood scoop anyway?

And I see a lot of faults on this DeLorean. Whoever got 55k for it laughed their way all the way to the bank

The side profile pic with the nose high stance really hurts it. For that price it shouldn't still have the factory springs.

I dunno... with the exception of some unfortunately placed badges, that scoop thing on the arm rest, and the driver's side door alignment, it looks like a good car. Winning bid was $21k... I'd say that was a pretty darn good price.
