Internal dimensions of centre console

I am looking at an electric conversion of my D. Can someone give me the internal dimensions of the centre console side-side and front-back as well as depth. I am looking at sizing up battery space in the void.

There is no Void space under the Center console. The Frame box structure runs down the center of the car.

The battery sizes you can fit in there are AAA, AA, and C. With some modifications maybe a few Ds :)

Haha! Good one. I just watched a video of the Electric Delorean of DMC and they are proposing to install batteries in that space to increase range. Funny they themselves don't realise that!

There is a void you can use in that area, but it's inside the center of the frame backbone.

This area usually houses the gear shift mechanism, which presumably you won't be using in your electric conversion. You could modify the frame in that area to hold quite a few batteries...

Assuming you remove the shifter linkage, crossgate cable, shifter, and accumulator thee would be some room in the frame. You would have to open up a section of the frame (compromise the structure) to slide the batteries in. Also the mounts for the accumulator and shift linkage would need to be cut out. But then you could slide in several batteries. I can give you some measurements tomorrow.

There is a lot of useable space in the center backbone of the frame - check out these 2 pics from my old car, after I opened the center section from the fuel tank end:

With a bit of modification (remove the accumulator brackets, shifter mounting point), I think you could use this space for batteries.

With some modification, it might be possible to put batteries in Front. Granted I only eyeballed the Battery Pack for the Nissan Leaf, it looks like it could possibly fit in the front. Would have to get rid of the Spare tire and do some other modifications to Radiator support, etc. But then again, unfortunately my eyes don't have IR Measurements...

What kind of Motor and Controller are you looking at using?

Had another thought after looking at my pics - if you're going to the trouble of modifying the frame center section to hold batteries, might as well lower the "floor" of the center section to be flush with the bottom of the frame. Usually you would have coolant pipes running in this area, but your electric car won't have them, so the floor can be lowered, giving more height available in the center section void.
