Is there a list of performance mods that people have done and how much hp/torque they gained? I was wondering what a cold air headers and exhaust would do for a stock PRV. Then I was looking into an EFI setup with the fast cams from delorean.eu, or if there any other good cams out there, and possibly the high compression pistons. I cant seem to find a thread that lists all of these engine mods and how much work they would be.

I did heads, cams, exhaust, and EFI. Car went from pathetically slow to meh, it is usable.

It is not possible to have a fast, or quick, DeLorean without a SERIOUS investment.

So do most people do engine swaps? I would assume that this would be cheaper. Does the resale value go down if an engine swap is done?

I would say that those factors depend on the engine installed, the installer, and how clean of a job it was. Some engine swaps look like pure butt, run like crap and kill the DeLorean's value. Then there's swaps like Nick's LS1 and Eddie's 2JZ that could (and have) fetched a significant more amount of money than the typical $15k - $25k.

I was thinking the same thing, and also "compared to what"? A running engine swapped car, all things being equal, is probably worth more than a no-engine or dead-engine car. Compared to a stock and well running car, probably not so much.

With VERY FEW exceptions engine swaps are not done well, are completely undocumented, and therefore make the car very difficult to sell to the general DMC-buying public. The typical buyer does not want a car that is even weirder to a repair shop than a stock DeLorean.

I'm not saying it would never sell, but the potential audience is very small. You would need to find a pretty special buyer, someone who: a)wants something different/more powerful etc.; b)is mechanically inclined enough to work on it themselves; c) is comfortable with a DeLorean, the donor engine, the quality of the conversion, and doesn't mind divining the interface , and d) values your version of the conversion compared to wanting to roll their own with some other engine and/or their own engineering.

Here's a study for someone - allegedly back in the 80's the Buick GN V6 Engine swap was common enough that someone even made a bell housing kit for it. I only know of two of them (the one now owned by Rich W and one that was perpetually at Don Steger's). I've never seen or even heard of any others out there, either running or not. Has anyone else ever seen any of these other than the two I mentioned?

Most people doing swaps don't care about resale. To a man they all say "Well, I'm never selling the car so I don't care". That's certainly a personal prerogative, but don't do a conversion expecting to sell it for big profits or even minimal loss of salability. The one that Ed built is, I believe about the only running engine swap car I've ever seen change hands, so resale is going to be pretty hard to predict. Non-running engine swap cars go very cheap since they tend to be missing the parts needed to convert them back.

There are a few I can think of that were famous for a short time and then have disappeared, including the Mazda rotary, small block Ford, Chevy V6, Chevy V8 etc.

The Smokey Yunick Delorean that is located an hour away from me in Jacksonville Fl is another mention. The engine was basically a Buick V6 chopped in half and then turbocharged. Brumos Porsche owns it currently and rarely lets people see it.

Here's another one for you.

Remember back in the late '90's / early 2000's when that shop in Texas was offering 4.6L Cadillac Northstar V8 conversions for something like $15,000? There were approximately 4-10 cars that received this so-called professional engine swap.

Today, I'm not personally aware of a single Northstar swapped DeLorean that's currently running, let alone having actually seen one in person, either running or not. Anyone else ever seen any of these engine swapped cars?

Here is a pic of the Buick Grand National Twin Turbo Engine installed... I "Heard" they put $80,000 into it... the guy that owned it was in his 80's... It sat a Don's Place for years... then it was for sale, and as I remember they wanted like $20,000...

I was thinking that a great engine would be from a G35, they are quick, and would fit....

My favorite swap by far was the Lotus V8 conversion. It's another one that I haven't heard about in years. I wonder if Robert still owns it?

I'm a big fan of that car as well. I remember watching the videos about it on Tamir's web page on RealPlayer...I think I still have them saved somewhere. Awesome car though, and that Esprit engine looks sexy as hell in a DeLorean. Robert seemed like a cool guy in those videos also. I'm also interested in knowing if he still owns the car.
