I've watched it repeatedly over the past few days and cannot get over how cool the hover activation sequence is, bloody awesome! :)

My only criticism is how insanely fast it suddenly goes through time - it can't have got to 88MPH unless it got hit by lightning like the Doc was at the end of BTTF Part II...

Also they used the same CG rim for the front and back.

It also stopped from 88 in about 3 car lengths ;)

The CG on the conversion is pretty awesome. I watched that little bit like 18 times! How can I get my rims to do that?

Was anyone else bothered a little when he pronounced it "gigawatts" instead of "jigawatts"? I know giga is proper, but in sticking with the movie and all....

Yeah, what the hell's a 'gigawatt'? ;) You'd think they would use the movie pronunciation.

I was a little bothered by it when I heard it. It just sounded wrong based on the context of the commercial being Back to the Future themed. Then I thought about the fact that it isn't a commercial for Back to the Future but rather real world technology. Then I thought they'd made the right choice with the correct pronunciation.

Obviously, that car has Josh B's engine upgrades and Martin G's brake upgrades. ;)

Who knows, maybe he's been able to slow the required time travel speed down to ~20 MPH due to reduced power requirements and increased processing speed of the electronics. Certainly would get you out of any and all speeding tickets ;)

Although come to think of it, so would the one-off hover conversion...

It's interesting how BTTF and the DeLorean seem to be making such a big come back in the mainstream media these days. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. :confused2:

I'm kinda on the fence with this one. Yes, it's awesome that the DeLorean has seemed to have weathered the storms from 1985-2003 when nearly anything about the DeLorean was negative, but man, lately it's just BTTF/DeLorean left and right.

Personally, I think it's nostalgia kicking in. Just think, in 20 years we'll be clamoring for auto-tune and T-Payne music in our commercials.

I saw a new commercial for the Esquire Channel and there is about a 1 second shot of a guy sitting in a Delorean with the door open. Did anyone notice in the GE commercial a lot of the pipes and wiring on the front is not on the car? I also find it amazing companies would go to the wayback machine and use a car from the 80's to promote their new products! I guess they think the car still looks futuristic and want to associate their product with it. I wonder what Universal soaked them for to use it? GE can afford it! They must have spent a bunch to produce the commercial in the first place!

I don't think that it was the Universal car that is in the GE commercial, rather the TMR car owned by Terry M., I think.

Yes, this car is owned by Terry Matalas and is the TMR 'flagship' replica. This car was built by Joe Walser and Temporal FX crew and is the most accurate time machine replica there is. Bob Gale was involved with GE in setting up the commercial and he accompanied Joe and Terry to the shoot in New York. Joe Walser fabricated the white plug that connects to the nuclear reactor fuel port.

More info on the commercial shoot is on the TMR facebook page if you're interested. Just search "Time Machine Restoration"

In the world of BTTF (and I may regret asking this), what does this mean? Does it mean that it is the closest in looks/specification etc to the just-restored A-car that TMR did?

yes it was Terry Matalas's car. Nice guy, I took my son to see it before. It's awesome!

In the world of BTTF (and I may regret asking this), what does this mean? Does it mean that it is the closest in looks/specification etc to the just-restored A-car that TMR did?

Basically what it means is that if you parked it right next to the A car there would be almost no difference between the two. The parts that were used to build this replica car are identical make/model military surplus parts that were used on the original. Any fabricated parts (such as the aluminum vents, engine cover, plutonium reactor, flux box plates, mounting brackets) have identical geometry, mounting position. hole location, material spec, weld direction, etc. as the original. All of the mounting locations for the various props on the rear pontoons and interior of the car are in precisely the same location as the A car. All of the parts mounted to the bulkhead (IE the flux capacitor, status indicator array, heatsinks, relays, etc. are correct and in exactly the right spot. Every single wire on the car was cataloged for size and color and matched exactly. Even the purple rubber cushioned clamps that mount the large cables on the outside of the car were remanufactured to the correct specs by the original supplier.

In a nut shell there was extreme attention to detail given to every single part on the car so that it exactly matches the A car in size, shape, paint color, mounting location, labeling, and any other details. All the information learned from tearing down the A car and rebuilding it back to perfection was applied to making this replica car the best in the world.

Thanks,

was this a new replica built after the A-car was restored, or was it an existing replica that TM improved on with the knowledge gained from the A-car, if I may ask?

Terry's car was converted to a time machine before the A-car restoration happened and has been upgraded quite a few times since being first built. The car actually played a major role in the decision for the A-car restoration to happen...

Several years ago when Nike released the limited production of Air Mags for the MJF Foundation there was a press event in Hollywood. Both the A-car and Terry's car were on display at the event and Bob Gale and several other important people took notice of the condition of the A car compared to the replica Temporal FX had built for Terry. This was what paved the way for the formation of the Time Machine Restoration Team lead by Bob Gale and the eventual restoration of the A-car.

I wonder what Universal soaked them for to use it? GE can afford it!

I'd imagine they got a pretty good deal. As past owner of NBC Universal, my guess is there are all kinds of arrangements of the "staff discount" variety. Or they could spend some of the $16.7 billion.

http://nypost.com/2013/02/13/ge-sells-nbcuniversal-stake-offices-and-studios-to-comcast-for-18b/

The long list of acquisitions/assimilations I think is where the GE Borg cube jokes started.
