Battery compartment

I tried searching this problem as I thought that I could not be the only person with this issue. My battery may have died but I can't get to it as the nuts holding the battery compartment cover turn with the bolt so nothing happens. Has anyone else had this problem and how do you fix it? I hate the thought of cutting the cover.

The cover has ball clips. You just pull the cover off. No nuts need to be removed.

That is unless someone changed it on your car.

As usual, you are correct. It has been a number of years since I addressed the battery and I forgot that the cover "snapped off." I did it and it worked as it should but it was funny as the manual didn't anything about how they worked and I did not remember it.

Anyway, the battery looked like it was brand new (obviously as it is covered and protected) so when I get a new one they will probably be surprised by the condition of this one. It was a Sears 100 month one but I suspect that it has probably been close to 100 months ago as I didn't even remember how to get to it! It is a bitch getting older. The car only has 12,800 miles on it but the driver seems to have much higher mileage as his brain has over 200,000 on it! The even funner thing is that when I bought the battery Sears was in business and now...........

Get the battery out and charge it up. Take it somewhere that tests for free. If it is no good take it back to Sears and maybe you will get some credit towards another. In any case they will give you a core credit. When you get the battery back to the car clean the terminals in the car up so they are shiny with no corrosion on them. Do not overtighten the screws.

Bought a new one at COSTCO. $81 and it was 1000 CCA. It turns out that the Sears GOLD lasted almost 10 years so I would say that I had no bitch. It did die suddenly as it appeared to take a charge but had no available amps to crank it over. All of the cables were tight, clean and secure. I installed the new one and everything was fine. Sears wanted like $129 for a new one so the choice was more than obvious. Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.
