Side view mirrors don't stay in place...

To be clear its not the entire housing that is loose.
The mirrors themselves are properly affixed.
It seems what the mirror is taped/attached to is loose. They move just fine when you adjust them but as soon as you hit a slight bump the angle changes.

I'm going to pry off the mirrors this weekend using a putty knife and a hair dryer and see whats up underneath but I don't know what I should be looking for. Somethign loose? Something not attached properly? Any tips on this would be great.

I also bought the convex mirrors so I'm eager to install those but not before I can get the mirrors to stay in place.

Each mirror has two plastic studs that support the mirror base plate.
They help in adjusting the mirror's position and prevent shaking.

I presume the studs are no longer connected to the base plate.
Since you intend to replace the standard mirrors by convex, remove the mirrorglass.
Now you can see if the two (red) studs are still there.
If they are present but not in the guide or disconnected from the base plate socket, re-install them.
Then mount your new convex mirrorglass as per the instructions with the mirrorglass.

From what i can see both studs are still connected. theres just a lot of play in them.

Did you check if both studs are still IN the guides at the mirror motor housing?
If they're not in the guides you will find play sideways.
If they're in the guides, there only will be up and down play (normal).

One side of these 2 studs is a kind of ball that has to be in the clamp (opening) on the back of the mirror base plate.
If the ball is not in the clamp you also will have play.

Hope this explains the proper mounting of the studs sufficiently.
