I was doin a little work over the weekend trying to install my new steering column bushing from DPNW. In the instructions say to remove the column to gain access. That became a expensive mistake.. While removing the column you have to dissconnect the wiring, 2 connectors were very easy but one (for the wipers) was mounted right under the dash and I could'nt get to it so I thought "why not dissconect it from right behind the steering wheel" .. Bad Idea. As soon as I unbolted the 3rd bolt a spring mechanism came undone and a little brass cylinder fell out.. Great.. Upon further inspection it seemed somewhere along the way the stalk broke too. I was hoping to just glue it back on but Ill bet it will just snap again sometime down the road. Moral of the story is to dissconnect it from under the dash (duh) and not to take the swtich apart. I really tought it would just come off and bolt back on. Wrong. Now I have to get a new switch at to the cost of $135.00. Dammit.
Anyone have a combo switch laying around for sale?
Anyone have any idea on how it goes back together?
p.s. There is a stamp on the plate that says "do not remove these 2 screws" I just saw it too late.

I do.
When I bought my car the left stalk (horn, signals) was bent forward. Likely from someone's knee. It all worked fine, but wasn't "pretty" and was also harder to reach the horn/signals in a panic because it was beyond where your fingertips can get to while still having your hands on the wheel.
You can see the bent one and my new one in the photos (bent on top). The old one is sitting in a box waiting for someone to need it.
Would this help you any? You mentioned it is your wipers stalk that came apart. If your right side one is in need of work and then this one I have has a good right side but the left side is bent, do you think you could make a good one out of the pair to use on your car?
It's yours if you want it for the cost of shipping. Not sure what that would be, but maybe $10-$20 or something like that. Let me know and I can find out.

Thats it! Do all the switches work? are the logo's still in good shape or rubbed off? Do you know if the turn signal stalk is metal or plastic all the was through? Did you see any quality difference between the stock and the new one you purchased? If all is good, or even ok i'll be very intrested. Thanks for the reply.

You are likely better off getting exactly the part you need, but this did come up in the cross reference thread (see post #40) http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?932-Parts-Crossover-List/page4&highlight=cross

Hey, sorry for the delay Chris. I wanted to get you some current photos of the switch.

I'll try to answer your questions:
I bought my replacement in January 2011. To my knowledge, this replacement was out of the NOS inventory. I believe the ones currently for sale on the DMCH website are as well. With this in mind, there would be no quality differences between the stock and new one other than one was on my car for 30 years and the other was sitting in a box for that 30 years. Not sure what the answer is about it being metal versus plastic throughout, as I think they are all the same.
The logos are still in good shape. The right side (the side you have problems with) has better logos than the left side on my switch (good coincidence for us here). When I removed it from my car, I believe all aspects of it worked. It was just bent forward. I know my horns, turn signals, wipers, headlights all worked with my old switch and my new. If there was something about it that didn't work, it would be a surprise to me.
I can see the two screws not to remove thing you mentioned. The right side piece on mine here looks like it has 3 different screws which seem to be accessible and could let you remove this part. Then you could do the same with yours and implant my right side with your switch. The left side doesn't look as easy to remove independently as the middle collar looks to be part of it.
PM me your address/zip code and I'll get an idea on shipping costs/options.
